Hello. I really came to this forum because of something I stumbled across from google about Ritalin. There were some parents discussing its use in their children, and I felt I needed to express what I knew from personal as well as scholar research, as well as my past experiences. Aside from that I am a third year pharamcy student, and have taken many neurobiology courses, probobly enough to earn a minor in that field of study. Nuerobio is also a sort of hobby for me, so I know a LOT more than one would expect for my level of formal schooling on the topic. Some of it is from personal substance use (I hate the term abuse in this realm, people can be responsible) from my younger years (third year in pharm school is my FIFTH year of college total).
Don't be alarmed by my views of mind affecting substances. In regards to the comment about the ritalin post above, I am much opposed to its over prescribing, and in fact disagree with the vast amount of mind altering substances that are prescribed where other treatments could easily fix the problem. On the other hand, such tight control of these substances undermines the very freedoms our forefathers sought to protect so many years ago.
That is all--
for now.
I just sort of wanted to mention the Ritilan issue here, seeing as how that's really what led me to join. I also thankyou for your welcoming hospitality, and will definitely be exploring the rest of the forums here. I am a seasoned member over at Anandtech (for any computer junkies in here, which I gather might be a lot of you).
