1) If it snows more then 3 inches remove it even if it is still snowing.

2) Get out to shovel before the sunlight hits any snow that has fallen in the night. This will rude snow weight due to humidity of daytime and help prevent Ice build up.

3) Get a good pair of boots and thin gloves dress in layers as you will get hot shoveling it can be hard work. Once done get dressed fast to prevent chills.

4) Keep your rough shovel out side so you can dig out the door to get at the good shovel. A rusty shovel makes for hard work o dry and oil if it is metal after ever use. If plastic then this issue is not present.

5) Get a plastic shovel with a steel edge on it so you can get under any ice or harder snow and scrape down to pavement. Gavel driveway you keep 2 inch of snow on it at all times to give a nice base to remove snow from.

6) I am a lazy worker so my tips do help.

7) If you feel tired rest and stretch. Remember many people take heart attacks on the first really heavy wet snow fall.

8) Use a shovel that fits you both in height and in the amount of snow it will push or lift. like anything a small lady will not be able to push a big shovel meant for Hulk Hogan.

9) Ice this is tricky as the best way is to keep the snow off the surface thus minimizing ice formed by the heat of the sun in the day. If over done can kill the grass as it melts and run to the grass covering it and smothering it in the spring. Me I just sand and as it melts rake it and spread it around the grass and it helps to break the clay up. Salt well it can kill all pant life. there are environmentally friendly products that melt and run into the grass as well. Wood ash work great as well.

Best bet just keep breaking it up and save salt for ice storms.

10) When you shovel go 3 feet past the edge of your driveway. this give you more room to place snow in the later parts of the winter and if snow drifting occurs you might still get out in case of an emergency or returning very very late from work.

11) If you shovel less then three times a week then stop complaining you really do not get much snow!

Those are some great tips. I use many of them when I was shoveling. I tell my kids this too. They are still learning that I know what I am talking about. smile.gif

Yeah I think you may be correct there. I hope that is a good five or more years down the road yet. smile.gif

I think I need to get my snow equipment ready for the winter. I may need to sharpen my steel shovel.
