Jomo Kenyatta
Consider the following quote by Jomo Kenyatta taking careful note that this is not a Thread about Religion. Do you think Jomo Kenyatta was correct in her assessment of the way Africa is today?
Jomo Kenyatta: "When the Missionaries arrived, the Africans had the Land and the Missionaries had the Bible. They taught how to pray with our eyes closed. When we opened them, they had the land and we had the Bible".
On the outset, it looks like a religious issue, but its really a race issue. Jomo, when elected president of Kenya, received death threats from white settlers because they didn't want a black president. He was called racist names by them, names derogatory to his race. That should never have happened in an African country. However, as a race of people, caucasians have shown tremendous tenacity in being racist no matter where we have gone. It has shown up in South Africa where segregation and apartheid reigned for many years and continue in different forms there today. When you see racism around the world against those of African descent, its sad. When you see racism from white people against those of African descent IN Africa, its unacceptable. The above assessment is correct. But its not just missionaries, its explorers and British colonizers that did this. Almost any time white people enter a new area with primarily those of African descent, they invaritably mistreat and oppress them.
