Could you honestly withstand rebuke?

Proverbs 9:8

Rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

So are there any wisemen around here?

Not so easy, but do you have any experiences to share? What about when you are rebuked openly for something you did not do? What about if a member rebukes you as a leader?

You made me laugh so much with this thread! Nobody likes to be rebuked, whether is good or not for us, nobody likes to feel that way...so I would say there are not any wisemen around...at least...I don't see them!

Experiences? Yes, I have been rebuked before maybe once or twice, usually the leaders were right and I tried to change what I was doing wrong but the first impression I got was kind of anger (because usually the leaders forget that to rebuke with love) :smile.gif but after I realized I could improve a lot more so I am grateful for it.

Could you honestly withstand rebuke? Studies Doctrine Mormon

No one loves to be rebuked but it comes with the title latterday saint. I have gotten rebuked gently and openly but if your wrong and need to be reminded of the lord's work it must be done. Then their's rebuke that you dont deserve I think you should stand your ground and fight back its not only right but healthy for you.now their are leaders that need to be rebuke if their doing something wrong or did something wrong like paul did to peter in the newtestament. I firmly believe that leaders must always evaluate their actions not to justify people but to justify god.

I hope that I would be open to accept the open loving rebuke of people in authority... It is just so hard to find people who are willing to rebuke in love rather than in frustration or anger...

Ashes, you're so right and also you Wanlorn. I like your point Ashes about standing for what we believe. I never accept a rebuke unless I deserve it, some people believe in what I call 'false humility' to accept anything that someboday says to you just for respect and I think is wrong. If the person who is rebuking you is wrong on what they're saying, they need to hear it. I have experienced this recently (telling some members and leaders) that certain things they're doing is wrong, but I doubt some of them got it. But its my responsibility as a member to see that things are in function to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Now, it doesn't mean I am perfect and I think I know everything, it just means I care a lot about this Church and I want to see it grow!.
Wanlorn, what you said is so true, I think most people forget to show more love for the person they're rebuking but I noticed sometimes they don't even have that 'love' for the brother or sister in the first place, so how they can show 'more love' when they never feel it or show it before? sad.gif

Very true! They also forget the part... 'show forth more love...'

What would you do if you were Brigham Young then? Remember when Joseph rebuked him for something he did not do as a test to see how he would react? Brigham after hearing Joseph's rebuke in fornt of the Twelve simply asked him what he should do? Joseph hugged him with tears in his eyes and said you passed the test.

When I was younger I was asked to be the music conductor for my branch. I spent at least an hour a week on what songs we would sing that sunday, after about 2 months of doing this I had a brother come up and rebuke me telling me that my choice in music needs to be based more on songs we know. I smiled and told him, if he doesn't like the music I choose for sunday services, then he needs to bring it up to God. The Brother went away mad. I can handle rebuke cheerfully, and I have had my fair share of being rebuked by leaders also. It's a growing experience to me.
