McNair banned from working out at Titans headquarters

QUOTE
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans told quarterback Steve McNair they don't want him working out in their building, a move that signals his 11-year tenure with the team may be nearing an end.

I was surprised by this, but it goes to show that loyalty does not exist at all in professional sports. It's all about money and the business, and if someone is not making the team money, then he is a liability.

They just banned him from working out in their facility? Thats nearly as bad as Kansas City Chiefs former head coach Gunther Cunningham finding out he was fired over the internet. You think for all he has given them, playing with a broken back and all, that they could do this the right way.

This McNair situation is getting uglier by the moment

Players union files grievance for locked-out McNair

QUOTE
The NFL Players Association filed a grievance against the Titans on behalf of Steve McNair, accusing the team of breaching the quarterback's contract when it barred him from working out at its facility.

"He has a contract and he wants to comply with that contract, especially that part that says he must remain in excellent physical condition and give the best of his ability to the club," Berthelsen said. "And they're trying to keep him from fulfilling that function for the sole reason they want him to renegotiate his contract so they have a better deal with him."

So basically this is the opposite situation when a player holds out of training camp. McNair wants to train, but the team is not allowing him to do so. The players union, on behalf of McNair, is saying this is against his contract. Realistically speaking, both parties know they will be parting ways anyway, but I can see both sides. The team figures McNair isn't going to be around anymore, so why allow him to continue to use their practice facilities. However, McNair is still under contract until the Titans release him, so he should still be allowed to use their facilities, etc. I believe McNair will win this case, but it still is an ugly way for him to have to leave the team.

To solidify the Titans position that McNair was out the door, they selected Texas QB Vince Young today in the NFL draft. This is the pick that has made the most sense to me all day, and the only concern about Young is his side-throw QB motion that could get him in a lot of trouble in the NFL. He is a running QB similar to McNair, so he will fit in well with Tennessee's scheme.
