It seems like only I find these thing intriguing enough to post them here. First off here is the latest update in this case:

5. I was molested as a teen, which made me GAY, and now I can be excused for this behavior.
6. Oh, and by the way, I'm also an alcoholic and therefore nothing I do is my fault.
7. Isn't it great to have the perks that go along with being a US Congressman? Even though I've now resigned from my position amidst this humiliating public scandal, I will still receive my full Congressional pay for the rest of my life, no matter what I've done.

I haven't followed the news over the last couple of days, but I would like to add a couple of points that may have something to do with this discussion.
1. There is (or was) no evidence, whatsoever, that he had ever actually molested anyone.
2. It certainly appears that he is guilty of predatory behavior.
3. The return emails and instant messages from the young man involved could be construed as entrapping in nature.
4. The Democrats, and CBS News, have known about this for over a year. They kept it under cover until now in order to use it against the Republicans.
5. There is evidence that the Republican leadership knew that something was going on about Mr. Foley, but did not follow up on it.
This is an extremely tangled web of perversion, deceit, and politics. From his actions in Congress, it appears that Mr. Foley was trying to "do the right thing" by sponsoring and pushing for legislation to stop the very things he was drawn into. He hid what and who he really was, but still tried to do good.
If the Republican leadership really did know about this for some time, they should be tossed out. Likewise, any Democrats who are found to have been involved in this "dirty tricks" campaign should be tossed out. But, most of all, CBS News should be fined millions of dollars and the editors who made the decision to "sit" on the story should go to jail for aiding and abetting a criminal. (Of course, that is only true if it does turn out to be a criminal case)
If it is found that he actually molested anyone after CBS, the Democrats, and the Republican leadership found out about it, then they are guilty of felonies as well for not reporting the criminal action as soon as they knew about it.
There are a lot of sinners in this story, and no saints.

HASTERT, GOP STAND TOGETHER AMID FOLEY SCANDAL
The White House and GOP leaders are standing together in supporting embattled House Speaker Dennis Hastert, under fire over the handling of the scandal involving former Rep. Mark Foley.

I think this situation shows a lot of what is wrong with politics today.
People on both sides knew and did nothing. Republicans hid it to keep a Republican in the seat and to hide a scandal, and Democrats hid it until a time when it could do the maximum political damage. Politicians have become far too concerned with their careers and not concerned enough with properly doing their jobs.
We need to find a way to get it through to them that they are there for one reason and one reason only and that reason has NOTHING to do with what party they belong to. That reason is to ensure that the needs, views, and opinions of the people within their congressional district are properly represented and met.
If this is true, it could change alot in terms of the legality of what Foley did.
