AUTHORITIES: PARENTS DROVE AWAY WITH BRIDE
The parents of a bride-to-be told their daughter they were taking her on a shopping trip, but then drove to Colorado and kept her there until she missed the nuptials, officials said.

Yet the flood of attention only came when the Brigham Young University student missed her own August wedding. The 21-year-old was a state away in Colorado, allegedly driven there against her will by her parents, Lemuel and Julia Redd, in a now-famous last-minute attempt to stop her from marrying 23-year-old Perry Myers.

I don't think that there are really that many parents out there who would literally go to those extremes, although there are probably plenty out there who would like to!
Sometimes you've just got to step back and let them get on with it, whether you like it or not, at the end of the day, the bride was old enough to make her own decisions about who she was going to marry!
It seems like these parents are control-freaks since they did the exact same thing to another daughter. The husband of the girl said that his mother in law told him one day straight on his face "In this family, I am in charge, and you will do exactly what I say"
The girl is pregnant now and they are not going to allow their parents (the mother specially) to be around the baby because they do not trust her.
Just for clarification purposes, the girl did not sue them, it was the State that after finding out what happened, lay charged against the parents for kidnapping.
First off, what were the parents thinking? They are really control freaks. Second, when it says they "kept her there" what does that mean really? Was she tied up and locked in a room? Or is it that the girl felt obligated to do what her parents said? If so, that is a whole other story.
They told their daughter that they will take her shopping, then started talking to her in the van, trying to convince her not to marry the guy. Then they stopped for gas and the mother escorted her to the bathroom, then the girl realized that something was very wrong and refused to enter the van, then the parents took her from her wrists and hair and forced her into the van. They stayed in a motel room closely monitored where she was frightened and throwing up all night.
