A Drug To Stop Drug Addiction
Do you believe using one drug to stop the addiction of another drug is an agreeable method to stop substance abuse?
This is still used allot today, but it doesn't work. The process today is simply to get them onto a less addictive, less harmful drug that what they are on. Drugs like morphine where once used to get people off of alcohol and opium. Which in reality makes no sense since morphine is made from opium, but was thought to be less addictive and not as bad for you. Ultimately that ended up being a bad idea because they ended up being bad morphine addicts instead.
I don't know if any of you have ever heard of antabuse, but it's a pill that an alcoholic can take. When they take it, if they get an alcohol in their system, it makes them violently ill. Symptoms can be severe nauseau, vomiting, dizziness, and some people have been known to fall into a coma. It is interesting to know that there are drugs out there that counter other substances in such a fashion.
