There are some things you can be prepared for and then some things that not even an Army Ranger can handle - mother nature is the ultimate warmonger.

That's great. When you have something to prove it tends to motivate you beyond what might be normal or seem normal.

This is sad if they did get hit by friendly fire. This is a risk in any fire fight. I would hope that lessons are learned and people are more aware of where their buddies are so this does not happen again.

There is noting more chaotic than a battlefield. People are shouting, rifles and machine guns are firing, explosions, bullets are literally whizzing past close enough to hear. The tracers make it eerily beautiful as they etch a modern art scene that lasts for a split second and then evaporates. And the smell of it all. Yes, there is even a smell to war.

All this overwhelms your senses. In chaos like this 'friendly fire' incidents happen on occasion. But they happen less often than you would imagine given the chaotic nature of battle. That is due to the incredibly good training our soldiers receive. That these were Army Rangers means they received even more training. The Rangers are one of the premier assault forces in the world.

I feel for those two brave Rangers and especially for their families. Losing a loved one in a place far away is hard. Then hearing it may have been due to 'friendly fire' makes it harder still. Hopefully, one day we'll evolve to where we don't need soldiers and don't fight wars, but I doubt it. Call me a cynic.

Let me leave you with this. We in the military have a saying regarding 'friendly fire.' It goes, "Friendly fire… isn't." There's very little friendly about a bullet ripping through you at 2300 feet per second.
