Catholicism & Da Vinci Code
What do most Catholics think about the Da Vinci Code?
For my own opinion, I'd say Dan Brown is a lackluster and clumsy writer, who hit a goldmine with a religious conspiracy theory when all his other conspiracy theory novels failed to hit the bestseller lists.
What people forget mainly about the book (and subsequent movie) is this: it is above all, a work of fiction. His "facts" are as dubious as the existence of the tooth fairy.
For other people's opinions on the so-called facts contained in his novel, please see the following links:
I think most Catholics don't really think too much about the book at all. If they read it, like I did, I believe most find it entertaining. The only thing that stirs the members of the church is when people take the book for fact. Mr Brown did a nice job of taking small individual truths and weaving them into a fictional tale.
It is a fun piece of fiction. However, as a critic of Mr Brown's, don't go reading many of his other offerings as you will see he definitely has a formula that he uses. Angels and Demons was very similar to the Di Vinci Code.
