I still just don't get why the government would be upset about all the books being "backed up", unless it is just because it wasn't them doing it, like petulant child. I guess I can see it is technically an illegal blatant breach of copyright and such or potential monopolizing of public information or something, but I think there ought to be some way for this to work amiably. Preserving information and culture? Perish the thought!
I don't feel its as simple as that. It's all about profit margin. If someone knows they can go and read it for free online then they will lose sales. It also makes it easier for people to copy the text. Most countries are objecting to this its not just us.
I like the idea it's a totally great way of finding anything ever written on anything. Authors shouldn't worry cause they're just making their writings available for people who may not be able to read it otherwise.
