I don't think so. I think Manning knows it's time for him to go and Rowley will take over. That's why he planned the whole church thing, he had everything planned.

Do you think that Patrick Manning will willingly step down as leader of the PNM? Three of his colleagues have already done so, yet he has not. It will be tough for him to now say that Rowley is his boss (if Dr. Rowley is chosen).

He will step down. Just give him a couple of days. I think his political career as far as becoming the PM once again in the future is over. He messed up big time.

He says he will step down as political leader but will stay on until a new one is elected. We will have to wait and see if he will keep his word, which I feel he will. I don't think also that he intends to stay in politics, he has aspirations to be something else. Soon we may call him Reverend Patrick Manning or Pastor Patrick Manning or something along those lines. I am sure he wanted to stay on longer as Prime Minister but he may very well use this opportunity to move on. As I said time will tell.

Oh I did not know he said he will step down, where did you hear it Lordryoko? Also if he becomes a Pastor I doubt very much he will go to that famous Church that caused him so many headaches.

According to TV6 News Manning has resigned from Opposition Leader. He offered to stay on as the Opposition Leader until the June PNM elections, but the general council refused and so he resigned. I wonder how he feels now that Dr. Rowley has been chosen as interim leader of the Opposition until June PNM elections? There is a rumor circulating that Manning will likely just resign his seat rather than allow Rowley to be his boss.

How interesting they did not allow him to stay until June. I say it is interesting because they thanked him for his service yet at the end it was almost like an insult. He became another Panday, instead of leaving with dignity and honor both of them CHOSE to leave as losers.

Apparently Manning was planning to stay as Opposition and Political Leader until June but the general council rejected his offer:

international QUOTE
Manning read out his resignation. Manning also said he would not seek in any way to influence the choice of Political Leader and that he had spoken to his San Fernando East constituency and it would not attempt to put obstacles in the way of the Political Leader.

But after he put the letter down, he said there is a problem. He said the constitution does not provide for the General Council to appoint a Political Leader other than through a Convention and there is a procedure to be followed. He said in the circumstances he was prepared to stay as Political Leader and as Opposition Leader and appoint Senators, for that duration, (not saddling the new Political Leader with his senators). When he said that, the entire General Council hooted: "No! No!"

One former candidate suggested that since the matter under discussion was whether he should continue or not, Manning should leave it for them to discuss the issue. Manning left the meeting. He went downstairs to his car where he encountered a hostile crowd, who shouted "Manning must go!"

He also (based on his resignation letter) plans to STAY and will give full support to the new chosen Political leader:

international QUOTE

"The General Election of May 2010 did not result in victory for the People's National Movement. As Political Leader I accept full responsibility for this result. I am of the view that the party should in these circumstances now proceed to elect a new political leader in the shortest possible time and in accordance with the party's constitution.

To facilitate this process, I hereby resign from the office of Political Leader. May I also indicate that if it is the party's wish I am prepared to stay on as political leader until a new political leader is elected at which time it would be my pleasure to gracefully demit office.

I was first elected Political Leader on February 8, 1987 and it has really been a pleasure to serve the party these past 23 years. I wish to thank the party's membership for the opportunity to serve at this level and for such a long time. I wish also to assure you and through you our party's membership that I will give full support to the new political leader and would at no time operate in any manner the effect of which would be to bring the party into disrepute.

Yours in PNM, Patrick Manning"
