Surviving Torture
From a young age I have always been amazed by people who went through bouts of torture and survived. They later recognized what they went through, set themselves apart from it, and manage their lives in such a way that they could move forward rather than ending up depressed or suicidal.
The biggest heroes in my opinion are the children who go through this daily from their care givers, who should be protecting them, but instead torture the innocence they have responsibility over. Other examples are the prisoners under the Nazis, Ukraine starvation, spousal abuse or even cases where you are bullied at school both physically and mentally.
My main interest here is how do you survive torture, especially if it is daily or if you are expecting it to come such as in the case of a soldier that has been captured by the enemy? Is it based on the pain? Your mental state? Is there really anything you can do about it?
