Basically he could not tolerate the idea that past and present Church leadership are humans beings like everybody else, who commit errors and sin. I am not surprised, I find most members put Church leaders (GA's), Church policies and every move the Church does as inspired by God without any degree of being in error.
Part of me is very hesitant to even bring this stuff up, or link to sites like these. I realize this is the "mature" board, but it's not like we would have considered this former temple president to be "immature."
Some of these tales could be quite damaging to a person's faith.

I guess you and I see differently on this issue. While a calling does not "make the man," certainly one must have reached a certain spiritual maturity to have been called (and served) as both a stake and temple president. I would imagine that with his constant contact with the Spirit by serving in the House of the Lord, it would have been hard for him NOT to acquire this spiritual maturity.
In all the tales that I have read on why people have left the Church, this man's testimony is the most disturbing. To his credit, he does not publish it, for fear of damaging the faith of his former/fellow Saints.
I myself have found certain issues with the Church to be logically troubling. And sometimes I believe the only thing that holds me to my faith is that I cannot deny the presence of the Spirit when reading the Book of Mormon. While I share a strong testimony of the Bible as well, I cannot deny that the Book of Mormon came from the hand of God.
I believe there is no neutrality in the war of Heaven. And that the Book of Mormon is an instance in which either it is from God or from Satan. Thus another testimony I have of the book is that if it DID come from Satan, then there must be no God because the peaceful love from that book for man cannot be denied.

So far what I am getting is that he had questions and they were brush off...asked basically to forget about it. |
The church is loosing a lot of membership. Elder Jenson said about 6 mos ago that the church is in the worst apostacy since Kirtland. I have seen numbers as high as 80% of the members under 35 are leaving the churchor no longer active. In recent polls and statistics that I have seen it is over historical issues, lack of transparency of leadership, and doctrinal issues. Its a real issue that we are facing in the church. You will see more talks geared toward this at conference. (see April's conference.)
