In the Revolutions film during the part where Neo and Trinity are flying to the source city a Sentinel Enters Neo, why is that?

I think this was just added fluff that wasn't needed. I understand the symbolism of the connection between the machines and Neo as the power of the one extends past the Matrix all the way back to the machine city. I do agree that it was a pretty good show of CGI.
