Can you blame ANYONE for being upset at being in such a situation though? I mean, I don't think it would have been so bad as long as you were under someone who treated you well and equally, but there must have been SOME people who weren't nearly so nice. It would have been a horrible time.

You only get upset when you probably learn they do something different somewhere else. Look at the women in the Taliban they live in a medieval like period with the men telling them they cannot read or write or have any say. They were born into that so they just accept it as how life is for women. I bet the women back then thought the same way, that's just their role.

I had do to an essay once about this. One thing I learned was how religion played like a totally huge part in how women were treated. You mentioned the Taliban and they're philosophies about how they treat their women is based on their religion. It wasn't like any different in medieval times cause the Bible belonged to men and it says for women to basically just stay quiet and listen to the men. About the only women who had any say in anything were those with royal blood or who were luck enough to marry a noble. Women now have it real nice compared to the medieval women.

The medieval woman had a hard life. Even if she were a noble she was expected to conform to the wishes of whatever title she bore. This often meant she would have to marry someone she did not love and be happy about it. The poorer classed medieval woman was the barefoot and pregnant type doing the chores of home and raising children while the man either fought in wars or planted the land.

Have you ever noticed how the medieval woman is portrayed as a nag at home? Just imagine at times they would not see their husbands for months or years while he were off to battle for the king and country. Meanwhile that old nag has to take care of the household and sometimes work to pay for it. She had it difficult.

That is a good point and that is why medieval women had to be so tough to cope. Women today have to go through the same thing when their husbands serve abroad in the military.

What about the women that were involved in battles. I think I read somewhere that the Celtic women were just as fierce as the men and fought equally on the battlefield.

You can use Boudica as an example of that. Boudica was queen of the British Iceni tribe and she led them against the Roman occupants of Britain at the time.
