Being Silent On Issues

I heard a guy on CNN say that the US does not act like a Super Power because it yaps about every issue in the world rather than being silent. I guess it is like a big guy answering every skinny guy that insults him. When you are big you are big, you do not have to say you are big, what do you think?

I think possibly, on a 'SuperPower' scale, America is still a very young nation as compared to European powerhouses, or China which it seems is currently on a rise of power, globally speaking.

Maybe then, their "big stick" policy and tendency to yap or respond to every little thing, is a reflection of a sense of immaturity, or even insecurity as a nation?

Offtopic but,
To all the Americans out there who may read this: I'm not saying that Americans are immature, or insecure... but that as a nation, America is young...

For the past six years the world has been treated with a "my way or else" mentality by this country. Is that a sign of maturity as a culture, a nation, and a super power? If your neighbor from three doors down stopped by and told you how you have to act, what you can watch on tv, and who you have to like in your neighborhood, what would your reaction be? We cannot convince everyone be just like us, when as a country, this world is coming to despise us.

We are not a super power because we "yap" on everything in the world? What an ignoramus! We "yap" because we can, its called freedom of speech! Last I checked, caring about the issues is not a weakness to being a super power, it whats makes us a super power, and what makes us as a people great! Sorry to say, that guy was way out of line and truly had an uneducated opinion about speech. As a country, we make ourselves heard because we can. It is our responsibility to speak out against other countries if they are harming others or committing atrocities against other humans. Its not the role of a super power to police the world, but its our job to make known the dark secrets of the world that we can see when others can't.

In this instant media age, people can ask questions directly of our leaders and it is instantly sent around the world. This wasn't done in the USSR, England and Rome when they were superpowers. If a questions is asked and our leaders ignore or dodge it, that is news. If they answer the question, it is news also. It has only be within the last few decades that people actually saw their President on TV as a real person and not only "read" about what they said. I am not sure it is yapping more than it is a free society allowing access to our top officials and they responding.

I didn't know that previous superpowers were silent? That is news to me! The US has a role in the world to call a spade a spade. If tyrannical regimes are going around killing others than I want countries like the US to voice their concern. In today's highly globalised community, nations will get involved in others affairs. Hopefully this is for the better of humanity. Often it's for self interest. The US and other free countries should have a voice. This doesn't mean being loud, obnoxious or arrogant, but certainly taking an interest in what happens around the world. In fact, I would like more Americans to learn about the world and voice their opinion. That's why forums like these are valuable.
