NEW YORK (AP) - The Dow Jones industrials traded below 10,000 on Thursday for the first time since Nov. 6. According to preliminary calculations, the Dow ended the day down 268 at 10,002 after falling to 9,998 just before the close. The Standard & Poor's 500 was down 34 at 1,063. And the Nasdaq composite index is off 65 at 2,125. Stocks buckled under the weight of news of rising debt levels in Europe and a jump in the number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits. Ref. Closed at 11,000
NEW YORK (AP) The Dow Jones industrial average has closed above 11,000 for the first time in a year and a half. In preliminary results, the Dow was up 9 to close at 11,006. It is the Dow's first close above 11,000 since Sept. 26, 2008. It briefly topped 11,000 during trading Friday but faded by the close. The Standard & Poor's 500 index was up 2 at 1,196. U.S. Stocks rocketed higher
NEW YORK (AP) - U.S. Stocks rocketed higher and bond prices fell after a nearly $1 trillion plan to contain Europe's debt crisis reassured investors. The Dow Jones industrials are up 405 at 10,785, its biggest gain since March 2009. The Standard & Poor's 500 index is up 49 at 1,160. The Nasdaq composite index is up 109 at 2,375. Ref. USAToday
