The Dow made history today, hitting 15,000 after a strong jobs report. The S&P 500 topped 1,600 for the first time.
The U.S. Economy added 165,000 jobs in April, according to the government's latest monthly jobs report. The unemployment rate dipped to 7.5% from the prior month's rate of 7.6%. Ref. CNN

Yet again, the Dow Jones industrial average closed at new record high this year at 15,271, joined by broader Standard & Poor's 500 index, which closed at 1,658. A jump in home prices is helping send the stock market sharply higher in early trading. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 143 points to 15,447 shortly after the opening bell Tuesday, a gain of 1%. The Standard & Poor's 500 index was up 17 points at 1,666, or 1.1%. The Nasdaq composite was up 41 points at 3,500 or 1.8%. Markets were closed Monday for the Memorial Day holiday. Ref. USAToday
U.S. Stocks surged in early trading as investors digested stellar economic data that appeared to put the housing and financial crises far in the rearview mirror. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by more than 200 points, or 1.4%. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 1.4%. The Nasdaq gained 1.6%.
One of the reports powering the markets showed that U.S. Home prices posted their strongest gains since 2007. According to the S&P/Case-Shiller national index, prices rose 10.2% in the first quarter.
In another report, consumer confidence surged to a five-year high in May, fueled by increased optimism about an improving job market. The Consumer Confidence Index, which gauges how consumers feel about the economy each month, rose to 76.2 in May -- its highest reading since February 2008, according to research firm the Conference Board.
