I think most people get pets and form a bond with them. We even like it when our goldfish recognizes us and comes to the surface for food. I really just can't form an attachment with a tree. Perhaps, I am not hugging them as much as I should?

I think there is a degree of attachment due to the dependency of an indoor plant on you providing water, moving it to sunlight, and so on. Unlike outdoor plants with an indoor plant you recognize new leaves formed and its' growth, etc.
