Rmoney as Mormon US President This Thread is asking if you as an LDS Member will vote for him because he is LDS. Please note that there is another Thread in the Politics & Activism Board about Mitt where everyone can reply with regards to his Political views.

I am hoping that people will start judging Romney on his political views, right or wrong, and stop asking him on the particulars of Mormonism.

But aren't his views somewhat shaped by his religious views? He used to be in agreement with abortion and gay rights (he no longer support both) but I think the people (non-members) may have a point making a connection between his views and his religion (who he professes to be active in)

I agree with you entirly LDS_forever.

The problem is that the reasons for some evangelicals not wanting to vote for him revolve around the following

Polygamy.
God having a body.
Mountain meadows massacre
God is an exalted man.
View that Jesus's Father is literally God the Father

What do these questions have to do with how Romney will Govern?

They haven't been focusing much on Romney's changes until recently, questions that I have no problem with.

A person's religion is relevant. If a person espoused beliefs that put him at odds with the values of society, I would not want him in office. Let's say Romney belonged to a religion that taught that robbing from your neighbor is fine as long as they do not belong to your church?

Hmmm.

Not MY kind of person...

I agree with you, as long as the questions asked are about relevant topics. A Candidates views on if God is Material or spiritual, a trinity (three in on) or one God are not relevant to a candidates efficacy in the office of president.

A Candidates supposed change in views about abortion, Gun control, and the right of Homosexual couples to Marry most certainly is.

Those aren't the questions evangelicals were asking until recently and that was my frustration with them bringing up his Mormonism.

Poll sheds light on widespread bias against Romney, LDS

Mitt's speech a big hit with Utahns

GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney's speech on religion this week was a huge hit with Utahns, especially those who share his Mormon faith. According to a new Deseret Morning News/KSL-TV poll, 89 percent of Utahns surveyed statewide thought Romney did a good or even excellent job. And nearly as many - 78 percent - thought he has helped his candidacy by speaking out on faith.

Theologian-in-chief? Romney's speech spurs questions about faith

For Republican candidate Mitt Romney, that means his political future may hinge on whether he can convince the nation's conservative evangelical Christians that even though he may pray to a God with a different form than theirs, diverse religious expression is vital to America's freedom. Romney's views on the nature of God and Jesus, as well as his beliefs about whether the Bible is infallible, are central to the distrust many evangelicals feel about Romney as a potential president, according to interviews with evangelicals and others.
