Comments: I read someone online saying that Romney comes from a line of Mormon Mexican polygamists, I wonder if he will let anyone know that or can someone confirm that?
Bill Keller infamously announced in 2007, "If you vote for Mitt Romney, you are voting for Satan!"
While expressing less vitriol in his delivery, evangelical author Warren Cole Smith said something similar in his recent article, "A Vote for Romney Is a Vote for the LDS Church." Ref. Source 6
Justice - A lot of Mormons are descended from polygamists, and I'm sure Romney is no different. Polygamy was practiced within the early church, so it follows that a lot of people are descended from those who practiced.
It's not like Romney's parents were polygamists, and he certainly doesn't practice it. I'm not confirming that he is descended from that line, I'm simply saying, "So what? That was 150 years ago, man."
His great grandparents were polygamists who fled to Mexico to live their religion in peace. But polygamy is nothing to be ashamed of if you believe in the restored gospel. Who cares what others think about it.
But don't vote for Romney just because he's a member of the church. If you do you'll be disappointed when you find out he doesn't fit the mold of most church going members believe. Research and find out what kind of statements he has made & what his "fruits" have been. For example just a few days ago he revealed that he does believe in global warming, and that we are the cause of it. Add that to fact that he'll change his views at the drop of a dime just to win an election. He's changed his views on abortion, homosexual marriage, gun rights, immigration, etc. To appear more conservative now that he isn't running for governor of a liberal state like Massachusetts. He has publicly supported gay rights & banned the boy scouts from the Olympics for not tolerating gay scout masters in their troops.
In my opinion he will do more harm than good for the church being president. I understand people are excited to have him as president to make the church more popular & accepted in the world, but do we really need to be more popular with the world? Babylon & the church will never be friends, unless the latter gives up or masks their beliefs to make it appear that they are they same as everyone else, thus stooping to their level all because of the image they want the world to have of them.
I agree, mostly. He's just a politician like any other politician, who just happens to be LDS. We have to look at his politics first and his religion second when deciding on whether or not he's presidentially qualified.
Mitt Romney Reasserts His Pro-Life Position on Abortion
The year on the calendar may be different but former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney faces some of the same questions on the issue of abortion that hounded him during the 2008 version of his Republican presidential campaign.
Romney campaigned for and won election to the highest office in the liberal New England state by saying he supported abortion and that he would not change the law on abortion as the state's governor. However, when confronted with legislation state legislators passed that would have promoted embryonic stem cell research and the destruction of human life for scientific research, Romney has said he was forced to reevaluate his position and that he ultimately came down on the side of protecting human life.
In an interview last night with Piers Morgan on CNN, Romney reiterated that story of how he became pro-life.
"When I ran for governor, I believed I could keep the law as it was. And I said I"d keep the law as it was," he explained. "Then when I became governor, a piece of legislation came to my desk which would have led to the creation of new life for the purposes of destroying it. And I simply couldn't sign it."
"And I - I met with my staff and said, look, I"ve got to write why I have changed my view in this regard. It was one thing to talk about it philosophically, it's another thing, as governor, to sign a piece of legislation that will take human life. I wrote that op-ed while I was governor and became pro-life and I continue to be pro- life," Romney added.
Romney originally articulated his change of heart on abortion to Kathryn Lopez of the pro-life conservative news outlet National Review in December 2006. Ref. Source 8
Romney: 'If You Want to Learn More About My Church, Talk to My Church'
Asked whether it's actually possible to separate his faith from his job as president should he be elected, Romney responded, "Absolutely. You don't begin to apply doctrines of a religion to the responsibility of guiding a nation or guiding a state." Ref. Source 7
