I don't think it's going out on a limb much any more to say that Romney will be the GOP nominee. Gingrich, Cain, and Perry have self-destructed and Paul is losing traction. All the others didn't have a chance.
Am a little apprehensive as for a believing LDS person, getting rid of Obama and the Democrats is the #1 priority (because their political positions are in virtual complete opposition to the Gospel of Christ) and I would hate to see Romney mess it up which I think he could easily do.
For example, he recently and erroneously said that Romneycare was based on a conservative principle, that people pay for their own insurance rather than the government. The problem with that is his plan was by constraint (in opposition to the Gospel) among other issues.
I must admit that I'm surprised Romney is making so much ground up. Is it that Republicans don't have good alternatives or is Mitt really that good that he could beat Obama in the next election?
Currently, it seems that any Republican can beat Obama, but Romney most of all. I expect that to tighten up by November.
What I've not seen from Republicans in recent decades though is campaigning specifically directed at blacks, showing them the error of voting Democrat and their innate conservatism, and helping them get off the NAACP plantation. The Democrats need victims and can't afford to see blacks having economic success and having that success truthfully credited to conservative economic policies (such as the old TJTC and JTPA programs).

When Romney was made governor and sworn into office did he swear on the Bible or the Book of Mormon? Just wondering what he will use if he does become President.
I don't know what he did for governor but since using the Bible is traditional, and being LDS Romney accepts the Bible as the word of God, I'll wager he swears on the Bible.
But it wouldn't matter if he used the Book of Mormon either as that also is the word of God (Well, I suppose it would cause quite a stir). Wouldn't matter if he used nothing at all as neither book holds any innate efficacy with regards to the strength and commitment of a candidate's will to execute the office.
The interesting thing about this is that the Bible itself says:
Sen. John McCain endorsed former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for president at a rally Wednesday in New Hampshire.
"I am really here for one reason and one reason only," said McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, "and that is that we make Mitt Romney the next president of the United States of America and New Hampshire is the state that will catapult him on to victory in a very short period of time."
Romney won Tuesday night's Iowa caucuses by eight votes over Rick Santorum.
With 47% support, Romney also was the top candidate Tuesday night in a CNN/ORC International flash poll of New Hampshire Republicans who followed the Iowa results. Ref. CNN
The kiss of death for Mitt Romney
Romney just scored an endorsement that is about as coveted as one from Anthony Weiner. After the Iowa Caucus, Senator John McCain endorsed Mitt Romney. Yup, the same John McCain who 4 years ago was saying Romney would destroy America as president. Ah, politics. Gotta love it (if love = hate). Ref. Source 3
Pro-Life Former Vatican Ambassadors Endorse Mitt Romney
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney earned the endorsements of a handful of pro-life advocates who served as ambassadors to the Vatican on behalf of the United States.
Romney today announced the support of five former U.S. Ambassadors to the Holy See. The Ambassadors wrote the following letter in support of Mitt Romney:
"We the undersigned former U.S. Ambassadors to the Holy See -Thomas Melady, Ray Flynn, James Nicholson, Francis Rooney and Mary Ann Glendon - are united in our wholehearted support for the candidacy of Mitt Romney for the Presidency of the United States because of his commitment to and support of the values that we feel are critical in a national leader.
