For those who have a house with a basement, you are well aware of the problems that can arise if it becomes flooded or even gets a little water. A sump pump can prevent water in the basement and save you thousands in water removal and lost value on your home. A sump pump is located in the lowest section of your basement and is triggered when the water level reaches a critical level. It then pumps the excess water through a pipe that leads away from your home. Here is some more info on the concept of the sump pump and how you can maintain it, etc.

This is really important depending on what elevation you are located at. Even in my area which is not terribly low it is a good idea. I was having blueprints for a two room stacked basement and they had actually 3 pumps piped into the walls for the construction. Prior to that I did not realize that it was really a problem.
