MORE PRINCIPALS WANT DRUG TESTS
Doctors are facing increasing pressure from principals to drug test students despite evidence the practice does not deter substance abuse, youth health experts say.

So if it doesn't deter youth drug intake, and it doesn't stop youth from starting up taking drugs, then what is this program really? Its a waste of time and an unnecessary invasion of privacy. I'm not saying kids in school actually have privacy, I'm just saying that this is a pointless exercise if it doesn't really deter drug use. Seems like a nice way to waste some of my tax money and do my job as a parent for me.
It sounds like the situation in NZ is pretty appathetic to drug use amongst teens. Well, at least with pot smoking. If they are testing an suspending kids for drugs and it doesn't stop them, that says the parents (that have of course been told of their childrens problem) don't really care or incapable of changing their childrens behavior. Reading this article, it sounds like the best course of action for NZ is just to legalize marijuana. However, if a kid that is on drugs disturbs the class and learning environment, I would want them out of there!
