Nixon's Jolly Resignation?
Was he just nervous or was Nixon really glad to get out of office?
Nervous, I would think nervous is an understatement and certainly not glad but relieved I guess, you think he would have given up the presidency, the Most powerful leader of the Free world position because he was neverous, he was just plain guilty, plain and simple and with Deep throat telling the press everything, its was only a matter of time before all the kings men couldn't put humpty dumpty back together again.
For anyone that has seen the Nixon and Kennedy presidential election debate, they know just how unsure that Nixon was and always appeared to be in front of the camera. He was definitely nervous in this announcement, but probably more relaxed than he had been for months prior to that moment. The congressional proceedings that had lingered on and produced a new threat of impeachment made this a easy decision for Nixon. Nixon firmly believed in the Executive Priveledge that was part of the office of President. He believed in it so much that he was willing to leave the presidency in order to maintain it for future presidents. I am sure the potential historical stain of a successful impeachment also had something to do with his decision to step down.

Nixon refused to use make-up in the debate and really looked nervous and sweaty. This didn't play well on TV either against the cool Kennedy.
