JUDGE BLOCKS TOWN'S ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION LAW
A federal judge Tuesday temporarily barred Hazleton, Pennsylvania, from implementing a law designed to prevent illegal immigrants from living in the town.

I don't understand, I thought illegal immigrants couldn't stay here any way, how can a judge block a law that prohibits people from living there when they are in this country illegally anyway? Aren't they already breaking the law? And whats wrong with making English the official language of a town, its the primary language of the country. I personally think this has just gone to far. No ones rights are being violated and the people effected are breaking the law anyway. It doesn't matter what your view is on the illegal immigration problem because until the law changes, they are still law breakers who shouldn't get any more rights than law breakers.
It actually is a clever law that goes after those that hire illegal immigrants. Going after the immigrants themselves (the lawbreakers) only stirrers up the ACLU and you get into the sticky subjects of what rights humans have not just citizens, so the people of Hazelton went after those that knowing use the illegals. This is a great maneuver on their part. The only issue is how hard or how honestly does someone have to check to make sure that they aren't using illegal immigrants. Don't get me wrong, the people who are exploiting that labor force know they are doing it, but PROVING that they know these are illegals is a different case. I honestly believe that the city of Hazelton needs to really define what a employer needs to check to see if any of his workforce is illegal. This is where the loophole is in the law, as I see it from here.
I do think that law needs to be clarified, but not for the reasons stated in the article. As konquererz said, they are illegal and have not rights in the US as citizens. However, the employers, I am assuming are US citizens and have rights and obligations as employers that need to be defined and respected. The big problem I see with the law is that if I am an employer and I make a honest effort to check the status of my employees and one of them fools me with quality fake documents the city will shut my business down, fine me and all the other employees can sue me for back wages. You might as well say that the town will shut my business down for good!
It truly is unfortunate that local governments have to step in and try to take charge of a issue that the federal government should be covering. However, maybe they will figure out the right answer because the federal government is too busy campaigning!
