QUOTE

"I am a deceiver and a liar," Haggard told 9,000 of his followers in a letter read from the pulpit of New Life Church by one of his spiritual mentors. "There's a part of my life that is so repulsive and dark that I have been warring against it for all of my adult life."

Well, he has since said that he was "Lovingly and appropriately asked to step down". He has also now stated that this is a dark park of his "human self" that he has wrestled with for years. Wrestled with what, massages and drugs, or homosexuality? Sounds like he has just dearly wanted to hid this as any man in his position would. Its already been said that this is a victory for the left, but I was under the impression that left wing was referring to politics and not religion, because wouldn't that mean that right wing was on the "good christian" side of things in that view? Whatever.

QUOTE

A male prostitute in Denver came forward last week claiming that Haggard had visited his apartment almost monthly over the last three years for sex and drugs. Haggard at first denied it. Then he said he bought meth from the man, but threw it away. On Sunday, he said this: "The accusations that have been leveled against me are not all true, but enough of them are true that I have been appropriately and lovingly removed from ministry."

The fact of the matter is that this man by his own words meets (or did meet until now) with the President via phone conference once a week. He discussed matters of gay marriage, abortion, family values, and assuredly the enforcement of christian morality via the governments right arm (my words on the last comment). This is the man helping our president decide whats morally right for our country? Ignore the fact that the president shouldn't be deciding whats morally right for me to begin with, who is this man to think he can tell me how to live?

My parents looked up to him being that he was head of the National Association of Evangelicals. The ludicrous way in which he has simply been excused of his behavior is appalling. Lets not forget that the President was impeached for lying about getting oral sex. Why can't he be held to the higher standard he demands from everyone else? And if the President has been getting moral advice from a drug addicted, closet ridden homosexual, who can some how push through his own hypocrisy to slam others for their behaviors, then that puts the presidents moral decisions in question. Of course, they already were for me any way.

QUOTE

"For extended periods of time, I would enjoy victory and rejoice in freedom," Haggard wrote. "Then, from time to time, the dirt that I thought was gone would resurface, and I would find myself thinking thoughts and experiencing desires that were contrary to everything I believe and teach."

He stepped down as pastor, he was removed from the National Association of Evangelicals, thats all well, good, and appropriate in my opinion. But when you are going to slam others for their lack of christian morals and confront people rudely, like Dr. Dawkins, then you deserve the hard fall you are going to take! Like my father always said, if your willing to chastise someones life, then you had better be sure your closet is clean, or else shut your mouth, you do more harm than good for your cause.

Fired evangelist asks for forgiveness

Members of the New Life Church were stunned and brought to tears by the Rev. Ted Haggard's confessions of "sexual immorality," then accepted his plea for forgiveness with open arms. Haggard, who had been a leading evangelist and vocal opponent of gay marriage, apologized Sunday in a letter read from the pulpit of the 14,000-member church he founded.

Rev. Ted Haggard Beliefs Religious General

Nonsense! Forgiveness? The religious right vehemently pushed to get Clinton impeached for lying about his affair. Haggard lies and gets forced into admitting the truth, but its ok, forgive and forget? Ted Haggard is a self righteous hypocrite who deserves at least the same amount of scorn he has dealt out to those who oppose the religious right!
