The Nativity Story
I just saw the preview of this and it looks exciting. The backdrop and acting seems to be similar to Jesus of Nazareth, my favorite movie. It opens Dec 1st. Anyone here going to see it?

A drama that focuses on the period in Mary and Joseph's life where they journeyed to Bethlehem for the birth of Jesus. |
I just finished to watch this movie in Spanish and I liked it a lot. It is not your typical movie about the birth of Christ but goes into detail about how Mary may have felt about first of all her engagement to Joseph and then knowing she was going to be a mother.
It gives a background on Jewish traditions, the hard life they had at that time and what a good man Joseph really was. It really made me think a lot, they used several scriptures to illustrate points I never really thought about.
It also shows how evil Herod really was and what he was willing to do to remain in power. There are a couple of strong scenes when Herod sends to kill all kids under two years old, it is very touching to see how the mothers mourned their kids.
There are some funny/comedy parts in connection with the Wise Men, tastefully done.
The theme of the movie is that Mary and Joseph were just regular folks, and they were afraid as much as we are when we become parents but they were willing to do whatever it took to follow God's command.
Very nice movie.

Finally saw it five months later, but I did enjoy it tremendously despite its inaccuracy of certain events. I liked the fact that they showed just how hard it may have been for Joseph and Mary to travel go through her pregnancy, etc. The humble state of Jesus's birth also shows why it was difficult for some of the Jews at the time to see Joseph's and Mary's son as a promised Messiah.
