Bush passes mantle to McCain
"John showed incredible courage and strength of character and perseverance in order to get to this moment," Bush said, a day after McCain clinched the GOP nomination. "And that's exactly what we need in a president: somebody that can handle the tough decisions; somebody who won't flinch in the face of danger."

Pro-Life Group Wants John McCain to Keep Republican Platform Against Abortion
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A pro-life organization for Republicans is calling on John McCain, who has captured enough delegates to be the party's presidential nominee, to keep the GOP platform pro-life on abortion. The Republican Party currently supports a human life amendment to the Constitution to offer legal protection to unborn children. Delegates to the Republican convention in Minneapolis this summer will reconsider the party's 93-page platform that opposes abortion and supports President Bush's policy against using tax dollars to fund embryonic stem cell research. Colleen Parro of the Republican National Coalition for Life tells LifeNews.com that McCain can send a positive message to the majority of GOP voters who are pro-life by supporting the existing platform. Parro tells LifeNews.com she has "reason to be concerned" because she has heard pro-abortion Republican groups plan another effort at the GOP convention to try to weaken or remove the pro-life plank. "John McCain should let us know that he understands there can be no "common ground" between people who think it should be legal to kill babies before they are born and those who wish to protect their lives," Parro said. "If John McCain wants to unify the Party in order to win in November, he must begin by stating his unequivocal support for the pro-life plank," she added. As recently as April, McCain told ABC News that he wants to keep the pro-life platform. But he has called for changing it to allow abortions in the very rare cases of rape or incest.

A Century in Iraq, Replacing UN with "League of Democracies," Rogue State Rollback? A Look at John McCain's Foreign Policy Vision
We speak with investigative reporter Robert Dreyfuss about Senator John McCain¹s vision for foreign policy. McCain is drawing up plans for a new set of global institutions,² Dreyfuss writes, from a potent covert operations unit to a 'League of Democracies' that can bypass the balky United Nations, from an expanded NATO that will bump up against Russian interests in Central Asia and the Caucasus to a revived US unilateralism that will engage in 'rogue state rollback' against his version of the Œaxis of evil. In all, it's a new apparatus designed to carry the war on terror deep into the twenty-first century.

Poll Finds Women in Battleground States Don't Know John McCain's Abortion Stance
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new poll commissioned by Planned Parenthood finds 16 percent of women in top presidential battleground states can't say whether John McCain's abortion views match their own. The abortion business worries the results show women who support abortion may back McCain because they don't realize he's pro-life. The poll also shows telling those voters McCain opposes abortion makes pro-abortion voters less likely to support him. Conducted by Hart Research Associates, the survey finds about 25 percent of pro-abortion voters who back McCain are less likely to support him when they learn he favors overturning Roe v. Wade and supports abstinence-only education. It found that 51 percent of women polled say they don't know enough about where McCain stands on abortion to say whether their abortion views match. According to Hart, "The simple arithmetic of these findings suggests that just filling in McCain's actual voting record and his publicly stated positions on a handful of key issues has the potential to diminish his total vote share." Hart added that when matched up against either pro-abortion candidate, Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, telling pro-abortion voters about McCain's abortion stance could cost him 17 to 20 percent of his current level of support.

Pro-Life Group Applauds John McCain for Saying VP Should Oppose Abortion
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Officials at the Family Research Council are applauding comments eventual Republican nominee John McCain made Tuesday night saying it would be "difficult" for him to consider a pro-abortion running mate. Tony Perkins, the president of the Family Research Council, told LifeNews.com he's confident McCain will appoint a pro-life vice-presidential nominee after hearing the remarks. "While Americans are uncertain of who it will be, they can be fairly confident knowing what the person will be--pro-life," he said. "This is an important step for Senator McCain. It demonstrates his commitment to the pro-life issue." Perkins said the comments may go a long way in reassuring pro-life advocates that McCain is someone they can trust in the White House on abortion issues.

Republican Party Leader: John McCain's Campaign Will Seek Pro-Life Voters
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A Republican Party leader says John McCain's presidential campaign will "aggressively" reach out to pro-life voters this year. With a stark contrast between McCain's pro-life views on abortion and the ardently pro-abortion views of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton it could be a key focus this election. Republican National Committee Deputy Chair Frank Donatelli spoke with CBN News about the outreach the McCain campaign plans. "All I can say is that it will be aggressive," he said. "We are going to have a very aggressive program to reach out to religious voters whether they are Evangelical, Protestant, Catholic or whatever." "Senator McCain's aides at all levels will be talking to pro-family groups. Senator McCain himself will engage with pro-family groups," Donatelli added. The GOP official said the Democratic Party has already talked about reaching out to pro-life voters, especially Catholics, but he said the party will have a hard time attracting pro-life voters because of it's staunchly pro-abortion views and those of its eventual nominee.

That is an old age to now enter office. If he were to serve two terms then he would be 81 by the time he is out! The Vice President will be an important choice in this race.
