Mormon Doctrine: The Naked Body

The Naked Body

Do you believe you can reach the stage of spiritual awareness that not even the site of a naked body in front of you could stir emotion? Why such a question? I spend many hours on the net, and although I stay clear of porn and other similar material - I still find it pops up now and again through Emails, deceptive sites and so forth, BUT as soon as I see the pictures I delete it and do not give it a thought, it brings no emotion, no temptation to continue. What are your thoughts?

I think watching a naked body brings emotion to any individual: some excitement, others disgust, others shock...but it always brings some sort of emotion unless a person is used to watch hundred of naked bodies and pretty much is "used to it". But answering your question, I think anybody can reach a spiritual level where matters of the flesh are not longer important.

I believe we come to this Earth with some strengths and some weaknesses that we have developed in our pre-mortal life. For some people, things like pornography or sexual sins in general are things they never had a problem with, others struggle and may continue struggling with those issues for most part of their lives.

I think if you have seen it enough, you see it not for the sexuality but for the humanity. An example was that given by LDS - one of doctors. And when I've seen my wife giving birth, the naked body was quite different than in other circumstances. And I seriously doubt that the other people in that room (doctors and nurses, we didn't hold a party) had any sexual feelings at all.

Thus I think it comes to maturity and one's desires.

I think for the Men out there, it is safe to say: It is better to avoid, as much as humanly possible, the very appearance of evil, then to try to test how much we can handle. There will always be situations where temptation occurs, but I have always found that spiritual maturity does not always protect us if we find ourselves in bad situations, if we do not run like Hell(no profanity intended) as did Joseph.

I take as an example the Savior when Satan tempted him with all power after he had fasted for 40 days..
Luke 4:8

QUOTE

6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine
8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

The Savior knew that the Devil did have power (though limited) in the world.
Christ did not say "the temptation of power does not affect me Satan."
He immediatly put Satan away so that temptation did not affect him.

Jesus was perfect and yet he put temptation behind him. Can we, who are not perfect, expect temptation not to effect us, if we do not say to it "Get thee behind me?"

You do not believe in that urban legend where mostly men get tempted and are somehow more sensual than women do you? I do agree, that no matter how 'mature' you think you are you should avoid all, but as I mentioned, sometimes it drops in your face, my point is your reaction to it when it drops in your face as opposed to perusing it or lingering around it.

When I was a young teen, twice my sister and I experienced something quite traumatic. At two different times (years of difference between each experience), two men in the street driving cars exposed themselves to us. One with the excuse of asking for a street number, stopped slowly his car while we were walking in daylight and he was without pants and the other guy in a similar situation was also masturbating. It was absolutely traumatic for me and I still recall the experience. Having never seen at that point of time, a naked man it was a very, very scary experience.

I had other similar experiences I rather forget because I felt at that time, the Lord protected me from being raped or abused.

Now with regards to material you find online, I think it is not only men who should be careful but women as well. It is very easy to fall in the trap and some people are more "visual" than others, hence JB says it does not affect him and he deletes the pics right away while others cannot.

No, I believe Man and Women are equally sensual and both tempted.
I do believe however that men are tempted more by visual sensuality, while women are tempted more by situational sensuality. This is based solly on my own observations and discussions with my wife.

I guess in the situation of finding inappropriate pictures on the internet, it is, like you suggest, best to click out of them as quickly as possible. I do not think it inappropriate to ask the Lord to remove images seen from ones mind, if that is possible, even when they were viewed on accident.

I also feel when we are exposed (couldn't think of a better word) to anything evil unintentionally that we can ask the Lord to remove that and He will if it is His will.

I wonder if sometimes those "accidental" pop ups and such might be a test to see what you will do. If you are faithful and such, I also think the Lord would help you not to remember. That is only my opinion I could be totally off.
