That is NOT what this Thread is about. You need to go to the Business Board where that can be shared from an International perspective. To understand what this Thread IS about then read the first Post in the Thread.

Inflation Tobago and Trinidad

According to the Labor Minister despite the inflation and food prices, Trinidad and Tobago is very lucky - it has oil and Patrick Manning.

QUOTE
So stated Labour Minister Rennie Dumas yesterday, as he sought to convince the House of Representatives that Trinidad and Tobago had been spared all the trauma other countries have been experiencing because of high food prices.

Dumas said, when compared to other countries across the Caribbean and in the world, the Government of Trinidad and Tobago "was doing an excellent job in mitigating the impact of rising price levels in the international market".

He said Trinidad and Tobago had been spared some of the extreme situations being experienced elsewhere.

"We hear about food riots, extreme worker situations, malnutrition and starvation. We have been spared all that, not because people are mild-mannered but because the extreme conditions that drive people to that kind of action have not existed in Trinidad and Tobago," Dumas said to thunderous table-thumping.

"Oil money, oil money," Caroni East MP Tim Gopeesingh said, offering an explanation.

"So yuh go vex with me for that?" Prime Minister Patrick Manning asked.

"Venezuela has oil," Dumas said.

"And Chavez," one MP chimed in.

"Trinidad and Tobago is lucky, we have oil and Manning,"
Dumas said to another round of resounding desk-thumping, as Manning rocked back in a chair, laughing heartily.

"Singing for yuh supper, eh? Yuh was like a zandolee looking for a seat (in the last election)," Princes Town North MP Subhas Panday shouted, causing chuckles on the Opposition bench.

On the issue of prices, Dumas said Barbadians were leaving their country to come to shop in Trinidad and Tobago groceries.

On the issue of food security, he said Trinidad and Tobago provided about 30 per cent of the food consumed here, which "compared favourably with most countries in the world".

Which countries are they comparing? Countries that DO NOT have an oil resource? Countries like the Congo and Somalia? Flip that is not brilliance on the part of one man, that is logic. If you have gold then you are going to be wealthier than the person who does not have gold.

This Thread is about inflation in Trinidad, so my statements are extremely relevant especially in this interdependent world that we live in, especially with inflation being rampant worldwide at the moment.

Well of course JB you don't expect Manning to do anything else but make himself look good do you? Just now a veggie roti will be $30 and a doubles $10 with flour rising even more now.

Probably to yourself, but not to me, and as the starter of this Thread I believe I already stated that my interest in starting the Topic is to focus on the PEOPLE's reaction to it and not those who are ignorant of what goes on here.

... exchange rate for the US dollar

At present selling cash is like TT$6.27, buying cash TT$6.00 and buying checks is around TT$6.11. The dollar seems to be floating around TT$6.30 as it usually does.

Correct.

Anyone here going to pay one dollar for hops? I don't usually eat hops unless I'm out with friends at the beach or something, but $1 for a piece of bread is ridiculous.
