Russian Spy Games

We all know about the story of the Russian Spy that died in hospital after being poisoned by some kind of radio active material. My question here, is what you think about all of it? Is it all just a ploy to cover-up something bigger or was there something already big in the making that the Kremlin did not like?

international QUOTE (CNN Breaking News)
British Airways says small traces of radiation have been found on two of its aircraft by investigators looking into the death of a former Russian spy, wire services report.

QUOTE
When the Scaramella and Litvinenko met, Litvinenko was investigating the death of Russian investigative reporter Anna Politkovskaya - another Kremlin critic - who was shot in Moscow on Oct. 7.

Scaramella reportedly wanted to discuss an e-mail he had received naming Politkovskaya's killers and warning that he and Litvinenko were targets.

Litvinenko, 43, blamed the Kremlin for poisoning him. The Russian government dismissed the idea, although there are reports that the polonium-210 has been traced to a Russian nuclear plant.

Can polonium-210 be traced to a particular plant? I had no idea these types of things could be traced.

Five Planes Now Affected By British Airways Radiation Scare
Thursday November 30, 2006
Five isn't an especially large number but it can be a frightening one.

Especially when that's the number of planes that have now been grounded by British Airways, after traces of a deadly radioactive substance was found on board the crafts.

The affected jets are all Boeing 767s and experts are guessing they're somehow tied into the death of a Russian spy, in a still developing plot that reads like a John Le Carre novel.
The discovery has forced the airlines to call some 30,000 passengers who were on 200 flights those planes have made since the traces were located, in an attempt to warn them about their potential exposure.

The flights involved were only made in the U.K. and Europe and none of the planes ever came to either Canada or the U.S.

British Home Secretary John Reid claims every effort is being made to find all the jets affected and keep them grounded.

"Two B.A. at Heathrow, one B.A. aircraft in Moscow, one Transaero, which is a Russian plane which arrived this morning at Heathrow," he lists of the crafts known so far. "And there is one other Russian plane that we know of that we think we would be interested in.

"There may be other planes of which we don't at this stage, know, but those are the five that we know of."

Here's an interesting transcript from an Australian morning news show:
QUOTE
ELIZABETH JACKSON: There's been another extraordinary development in the UK's spy poisoning mystery.

Italian Mario Scaramella, a contact of the former Russian intelligence officer Alexander Litvinenko, has been admitted to hospital after tests revealed significant amounts of the deadly radioactive substance polonium 210 in his body.

And there've been reports that an adult relative of Alexander Litvinenko has also been exposed to the same radioactive toxin that apparently killed the former Russian spy.
....
STEPHANIE KENNEDY: The Italian showed the former Russian spy several e-mails that warned they were both on a hit list and their lives might be in danger.

MARIO SCARAMELLA: I passed him a couple of papers and I said, "Alex I'm here also to ask you a comment because I received an alarm in the last few days".

STEPHANIE KENNEDY: Gerard Batten is member of the European Parliament and a friend of Mario Scaramella's.

GERARD BATTEN: As soon as I heard that Alexander was"¦had been poisoned, I rang Mario on the Sunday to find out what his version of events were, and what he told me was that one of the main reasons that he'd come to London to speak to Alexander, was because he'd received a tip-off via another ex-KGB contact in France, that there was going to be an attempt made on Litvinenko's life, Scaramella's life - his own life - and Paolo Guzzanti, who is an Italian Senator.

Now, what they have in common is that Paolo Guzzanti chaired a commission, an investigation into KGB infiltration into Italian politics; Mario was involved in that investigation, and Alexander testified to that investigation.

Remember those Anthrax mail events of not too long ago? Well, this seems to be it reborn using radiation poisoning and targets that actually die as opposed to just panic. They have begun finding many 'hot spots' in the UK now, and there seems to be a trail as it were to something bigger than previously thought.

Does Putin really have anything to do with this as was suggested by a man on his death bed?

I sure don't recall seeing this in the mainstream media, do you?

QUOTE
As Litvinenko was a constant critic of Putin, most were quick to assume that the Russian government was involved in some fashion in the killing.  Among other things, Litvinenko had accused Putin of everything from being a pedophile[5], to masterminding the bombing of some Russian apartment buildings - a bombing that was blamed on Chechen terrorists and used as an excuse for Putin to ramp up a war in Chechnya[6].

Oh yes, and on his deathbed, Litvinenko publicly converted to Islam.  And his next door neighbor was the Foreign Minister (in exile) of the Chechen Republic Akhmed Zakayev, who came to visit him two days before his death[7].

His death seems to be a tale taken from a spy novel, and a lurid, cheap spy novel at that.  Former spy who has defected later meets with other shady characters, investigating the assassination of an anti-Kremlin journalist and later winds up dead, victim of a horrible and complex poisoning plot.  And apparently he was sympathetic enough to at least the Muslim cause in Chechnya that he converted to Islam two days before his death.  And the poison used to take him down is an exotic material with a strange history of its own.

What is Po-210?
Doctors would soon confirm their suspicions that Litvinenko had been killed by exposure to Po-210.  This raised eyebrows and set off alarm bells across the globe...

... So this material is toxic - but only if ingested.  It is highly radioactive, but decays relatively quickly.  Its main historical use has been as a trigger for nuclear weapons.  It is messy beyond belief.

And Alexander Litvinenko died from having been exposed to a large amount of it.

Seems like it is a bad thing to be a critic of current Russia with ties back into the old country:

https://www.wtopnews.com/?nid=25&sid=1077594

I really want to think it is coincidence and that Putin has nothing to do with it, because I do think he has done some good things for the Russian people. However, that former KGB training and status always haunts me when I read these type of reports.
