When I joined this site, I was asked to explain VelJohnsonism, as it's quite obscure. So, here goes:
VelJohnsonism is a very small subsection of general paganism, with Discordian overtones. Instead of the Lord and Lady, we follow Reginald VelJohnson, (of Family Matters fame). It sounds ridiculous to most people, but the religion is very real. Sermons, lifestyles, the whole kit and a good portion of the kaboodle. Because so many people construe VelJohnsonism to be a joke, you won't find too much info about it.
We teach people that even though it's a rare condition this day and age to read good news on the newspaper page, and that love and tradition of the grand design is even harder to find, all the bad can be overcome. I took upon myself the mission to spread the word of VelJohnsonism, and show that a religion with a sense of humor is a religion all the same.
Definitely not a fan club, as I've always hated Family Matters. The usage of Reginald VelJohnson is merely our way of pointing out that any given person is no better or worse than any other. Most religions have a particular person they see as holy. We chose Reginald. It could just as easily have been Colin Mochrie, Spiro Agnew, Barry Manilow, or the late Esther Rolle. That's the whole point: It doesn't matter who you see as an inspiration, as long as you lead a good and prosperous life.
I cannot answer that, as I did not start VelJohnsonism. I could point out, though, that Satanists have a very misleading name as well, yet they have never changed it.
Why you can't find anything about it on the net, not all things CAN be found on the net. One cannot find an mp3 of David Hyde Pierce saying the phrase "cheeky porteau" on the internet, yet I have inarguable proof that such an mp3 exists, were I needed to provide such evidence.
Membership, on the other hand, I can explain. We have clergy, Popes, and Arch-Popes. (that's one of the places where the discordian mindset shows most). One might find that blasphemous, but since we seem to be second-guessed in all of our decisions, I highly doubt our usage of the title of pope will be what makes or breaks a future veljohnsonist. But I digress.
What it all boils down to is, we may seem like nutjobs, but we're happy nutjobs, and thus, we have succeeded in the goal every religion strives for, happiness.

Out of curiosity I did a search in Google for "VelJohnsonism" and came up with only one site and one page: Your introduction! |
