Which event had the Best News Coverage in 2006? Consider the number of times it was reported and by which relevant agencies.
I was very impressed with the news coverage that was given to the North Korean nuclear test - they seemed to have more information than even the White House during the beginning stages.

For me the Iraq War represented the best and worst media coverage in 2006. The mainstream news agencies had a field day being "embedded" (which means controlled) by coalition forces. We also saw the Hollywood press conference centre where meaningless rhetoric was spun and consumed by compliant news hacks. On the flip side, there was some excellent reporting from a band of investigative journalists and foreign correspondents. I really valued and enjoyed the UK newspaper The Independent in its coverage of the war and the surrounding issues. Their experienced team of talented reporters is second to none.
I would also like to add that I felt the reportage of Sudan's Darfour crisis was appalling. It was hardly touched on yet this is easily one of the biggest and most tragic stories of 2006.

Best media coverage of 2006 was done by MSNBC on election night. If you watched them, they got interviews with every major candidate, reporters on the ground in tons of places, and broke down who was winning where with precision and non-bias. They stand above and beyond Fox and CNN in that category in general. But I watched all three on election day, and they did a superb job.
