Define Hacker, Coder, Patcher

Rather off topic, but...
I have a question and couldn't find how to make a thread so I opted to ask in one of the threads which seemed most pertinent to the question that it is I am about to ask.

Does anyone know the difference between a Coder, a Hacker, and a Patcher and will you explain each one and where a person can learn to be each one (excluding hacker cause I think that's illegal biggrin.gif) ?

Patcher Coder Hacker Define

First of all, I had to split your Message into its own Topic because we do not allow hijacking of Topics here or in other words - taking a Thread of a different subject to ask your own questions.

Second, press [New Topic] button to start a new Topic IF one has not been already started. If you did a Search first you would have seen that a lot of your questions have been answered in other Threads, but I will answer specifically here.

Third, in the most general terms each can be described as such:

Coder - anyone that creates or modifies or works with code which in effect becomes a program or has a purpose

Hacker - anyone that simply modifies existing code

Patcher - anyone that creates codes to modify or fix existing code

Cracker - anyone that infiltrates a program meant to stop the cracker

My mistake. I tried to make a topic but my computer wasn't loading it all up. Did you guys update the page because it runs way better than it did last time I was here.

An since that thing I did last time was wrong, I apologize. I didn't mean to hijack anyone's topic.

More Questions, (Since I think this is my topic )

How do I learn to shape code as I see fit?

How do I learn to create programs and have them do as I want them too?

What is the first step?

I want the ability to change whatever I wanted, to remake the program as I see fit. What is this called?

Do I have to learn Binary?

Do I have to learn Java?

Where do I get the programs to learn this?

Is there a computer program that helps teach coding and programming to us?

Thanks for the help Coders, Hackers, Crackers, and Patchers! Much appreciated

QUOTE (Hero)
How do I learn to shape code as I see fit?

First, I am not an expert coder. Coding is tedious at times and what I do know is out of necessity to improve or secure things. Therefore you have to first decide why you want to code. Is it to build interactive sites, network, etc.?

QUOTE
How do I learn to create programs and have them do as I want them too?

Well you of course need to learn the rudiments of coding and decide which area you want to go into: PHP, Perl, ASP, Cobalt, Java, etc. Then pick up a manual about that coding language and practice, practice, practice. Usually the first tasks are based on learning how to print code. Later comes if / then statements, working with databases, etc.

QUOTE
What is the first step?

Do you know how to use HTML? That is the first best place to start because almost all coding online at some point uses HTML. HTML is a code in itself although it is limited in interaction and is merely for static pages.

QUOTE

Depends on what you want the program to do, in other words what you are turning it into.

QUOTE
Do I have to learn Binary?

Not unless you love counting 1s and 0s.

QUOTE
Do I have to learn Java?

Depends on what you want to do ultimately as a coder.

QUOTE
Where do I get the programs to learn this?

There are some free based ebooks and progs you can search for. Put the keyword along with "freeware" or "free".

QUOTE
Is there a computer program that helps teach coding and programming to us?

Sure, notepad, a browser and when you get to an average web site right click, view the source and start changing things. Other than that there are of course commercially available self help programs, but in the end it all comes down to an edit pad (plain text) format.
