I have registered to participate in this community website to learn more about the Caribbean people and their diverse cultures.
My son has lived and worked in St. Thomas, USVI since 2002. During our annual and lengthy visits with him we have become acquainted with many people that live in both the US and British Virgin Islands mainly through the branches of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of which we are members.
My wife and I are what people refer to as (younger) senior citizens and although no longer employed we try not to use the word "retired" but instead "active in non-scheduled work". No one really continues to live a full life if they are not active in something productive.
Prior to our present work status, I was a registered professional electronics engineer in Oregon and Washington States with over 40 years in military, commercial, and during my last 10 years, consumer radio frequency semiconductor electronics for mobile phones. My wife enjoyed work as a housewife and also taught in a local elementary school in Oregon State for a while. We lived on 2 acres in Oregon's farm area for 25 years and enjoyed gardening and alternative energy projects as hobbies. Skiing and Camping were part of our recreation.
In our present ward in Utah we have been "called" by our bishopric to serve as Family History (Genealogy) Consultants. My wife is also a Visiting Teacher and I a Home Teacher.
I found this website and the associated websites looking for information about the lesser Antilles. My wife and I will be visiting about 12 islands from St. Martaan to Trinidad in the Spring of 2007. Most of the islands we will visit have branches of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We thank our Heavenly Father each day for our health and have pledged ourselves to serve our fellow man however and whenever possible with the skills and talents He has given us.
