If someone is mixed in this way then which race are they? How do people refer to someone mixed in such a manner in your country? Are they treated better or worst socially because of the mix?

Brandon, they are mixed. I have met several people mixed with Asian and White and they are very good looking! In Argentina they will probably be considered "Asian" if their eyes features are more prevalent. They are not treated better or worst socially because of the mix, just normal.

I have come to learn that as long as you are 100% white then you are consider the other race. For instant a white mixed with Asian will be Asian - no matter what the percentage of the mix.

I had a conversation with my daughter and I said that a child of caribbean descent born in the US from parents of caribbean descent born is the US is definately US - yet she disagreed - she said that the child is still caribbean descent - I said she knows nothing of the caribbean or its culture why then is caribbean still associated with her makeup - so what does she put as her race - she is mixed 6 of one half a dozen of another...

Hmmm...the person may be considered "mixed" but why he/she would be considered solely Asian if for example the person has a mix of 50/50? Unless you claim the theory of some Americans who believe in the One-drop Theory which I disagree 100%.

She puts "Other" in the race field.

My child would be asian-american. However, for fun, I like to say that they are a asian-irish-american (50% Korean, 25% Irish and 25% mix of French, German and Welch). In the US, it really depends on the features of the child and the accent (if they have one) as to weather or not they are viewed as asians or just another view of the melting pot. There really is not too much of a problem in the US with this combination. However, if living in Korea, there are still areas where it is a disgrace to mix blood of different races. The child can be picked on in school and the mother looked upon badly in the community. Times are changing though in Korea as they are becoming a much bigger player in world business. The strange thing is if a Korean man marries a western woman. There doesn't seem to be the community resentment in that case. I liken it to the guy wearing a lot of "Bling" or jewlery. Strange.

Why can't an American be American - why do we have to add the "African American" the Asian American... if you are born in the USA you are an American then again if you are going to add the African and American then you have to come up with terms for all the other mixtures of races.

I totally agree Raya. That is why when I fill out a census form, I demand to use the other catagory because there are so many special groups that I feel the need to create my own - Iro American (irish american). But when you ask me, I am an American. My family is an American family. We just make sure that we understand where we come from but do not promote that above our citizenship.

Name: Cory
Country:

Comments: My son is an Asian(lao) mothers side and white (Canadian of GERMAN, dutch, Russian, Ukrainian heritage)fathers side. I call him a halfbreed with respect since I love him completely. There is nothing wrong with calling people what they are. It is our responsibility as decent moral people to call things as they are.No matter how blunt. I really call him a Thai-Ger. As his mother has as deep a connection to Northern Thailand as to Laos. And my mother is more German than anything and I identify more with my German heritage as my mothers family are tight-knit while my fathers is not.I am very curious to know what a common word would be for children of mixed white/Asian heritage and also for children specifically with a white father and Asian mother. You know like maletto, miletto or metis etc. Thanks.
