Watching Others' Children
Do you give in to Watching Others' Children when the parents just drop by on short notice claiming an emergency and having no baby sitter available?
I would watch them ONLY if is a life or death situation (I mean that literally) I don't like to baby sit the kids of other people, mainly because of safety issues. (too many law suits, also! ) I am shocked when I hear people dropping the kids to almost anybody at any time, it is so unsafe these days.
I would have to know them *very* well before I would accept this, not just the parents but the children as well. Right now, I know only one or two families that this would be okay for me. Other acquaintances, as LDS_Forever said, it would have to be a "life or death emergency."
If I thought that it was a genuine emergency, then yes, I would sit for other peoples kids, but these days too many people class an 'emergency' as time out on their own without their kids at a pub or club!
An emergency in it's own definition means that they can't give any warning, but these instances should be very rare, and not be able to be built up into a weekly occurence!
I do not know if I would accept this so easily. One of the parents would have to be dying before I made a move, because in this day and age there are many ramifications to watching other people's kids.
The other thing too is once you start then emergencies always seem to pop up on a regular basis if you get what I mean.
