Why do you call yourself Krakyn? Is that like "release the kraken", or is it an abbreviated name?

I sure kept something on the ice this weekend but that in a second.

Quasar I am actually just lazy and in a different rpg I had to come up a name fast hit the key board and made words from the letters that appeared. The result was krakyn Magsley the adequate.

He be not big he be not small and no job be to dirty he will kill them all.

It was a bout a month after that that it hit me krakyn was and it just made the warriors name even better. So I joined here primarily for rpg, but now that is the minority of the joy.

I also run the krakhead express in a town called Fartown and keep getting pm's to change the delivery companies name the manager there rather dislikes it. He hated Wop may even more though change that character name to Wilfred the guy can be a real arse.

But enough of that.

Ice have had enough of for one trip and it was a big set of stick I was worried on keeping on the ice.

To give a good idea First one must understand this type of thing I just did is hereditary not sure how many generation are and will be infected. It really just stems from not worrying enough before agreeing to a deed.

It is November and I journey this weekend to my parent about 2 hours north of me in central Ontario they are 45 minutes south of the Georgian Bay in a village. It is the snow center I have posted pictures here of their front yard.

We left here was 10 to 15 degrees above zero. I brought my winter coat boots and mitts and ensured my boys were similarly equipped. My wife I advised to do the same but she be smarter than I and took a heavy rain coat.

We hooked up my boat trailer as we needed to pick up some pine logs on the way up fro my cousin as a friend of ours just cut them down and wanted to get rid of them. So in the rain I managed to plunk them on and secure them down no rolly pollies here my friend. I ensured the could not move and inch. Knowing I was doing this I had done the brakes ball joins and new tires on the truck. They were done and all needed replaced.

North we went a nice trip just wet till noon Saturday when some nice white stuff started to fall. My sister had come over to my parents so we decided to hit the Meaford flea market before dropping the logs of. One would think growing up in the area I would have done the logs first right? Nope after all they follow along pretty nice behind the truck. So my dad took his car and off we all went to the market. It is a 45 minute drive at 80 kMh in good weather. It was raining much of the way a little skiff of snow here and there nothing really to think about.

My wife and I had been discussing for a bit now buying an L shaped sofa for by the fireplace. Well lo and behold there was one with a chaise lounge at the other end for 50% off. That is 500 cdn not a bad deal. Not thinking to check the truck I said sure why not when my wife looked at me in that way of hers.

Now being wise I asked the teller when I hit the loading dock will they have extra plastic and tie down so I can secure that load. Reassuring me that they did I felt pretty good about this. Walking out side now 3 pm a nice bitter edge is hitting the wind never a good thing when it is raining.

Driving around back my father and brother in-law hope out with me and we help that nice lady at the dock layer in the furniture three layers deep (I have a Dakota truck it is only a 5.5 foot bed). Now it is cold snow likely on the way raining and we have furniture in the truck I look in my compartment and lo and behold my wife cleaned out my truck! No tarps not a piece of rope not even a snow brush. I almost always check for that before going to my dads as I almost always end up doing some silly thing with him.

Not overly concerned I ask the lady for some tie down and extra plastic after all I was assured it was there. I got the blankest look I have ever seen in my life, followed by the door being pulled down before my eyes.

I was a bit irritated as a tad of rope just to hold things put would have been nice. I went back into the market and grabbed a tarp but no real rope to be had. I found some cloths line though wire and nylon. They gave me those real cheap 5 for the works as I was upset they lied to me.

Back out to the truck my dad had a 25 ft nylon rope he managed to dig out of his trunk. We both laughed like crazy as as of last Saturday I had 200 ft and so had my dad up to Friday night.

Yes we have a rope fetish in my family but for a good reason! We are always doing silly impulse buying.

Getting this load tied in and tarped took longer than we had hoped and it was now dark out. But happy it was well secured and stuck up 3-4 ft above the truck cab. My Dakota now looked like a blue troop carrier and we still had the logs in tow so off to my cousins house.

We pulled out of town all seemed good nothing flapping my dad behind ready to flash his lights at any disturbance in our load as I could no longer see the logs other then the tails. As we when up the hill climbing we note a car coming slow down the hill loaded with snow in its grill. I look at my wife who is staring in disbelief and my sister in back starts laughing and yells ye .! Sure enough we top the hill and 1/4 mile down the road it is white and we can not see the 1/2 mile mark.

Would have been a bit better but it was blwoing side ways and falling hard. At least the roads are some what clean. Another 10 minutes finished that though and we started plowing through a foot of snow. I thnaked God for the work we had just done adn turned to my and said well the fella in Alaska said these tires hold real good, so we will see. this is a very hiolly area up and down 200 feet at a time.

My truck is butt heavy and the weight 70% on the rear tires the front is a bit lighter at that point then I had liked. I managed to maintain a 60 kph so as not to slip on the up slopes. I will have to ensure I get back to the fella in Alaska as he was right those Remington's held nice and tight. I never turned a tire once though my front was trying to betray me bouncing up a bit in the snow. About 2 miles from my cousins and some java the snow stopped and the roads were dry. If I had known I could have come around via Ownsound and never drove through a drop of snow!

Then again that would not be my families way and who am I to break tradition. At my cousins I just unhitched the trailer and told him I would be back in a few weeks he just laughed and said what you quitting now? So I rehitched and made him unload it. We finished a coffee and off again only to drive right back into it at least we only had 20 miles to go. With out the logs the front was a little better and the snow was only 6 inches deep.

At dads we talked about the trip and my son was quick to say he thought we were dead as he cold not see the road and did not know how we were able to drive. My dad laughed like crazy and just smiled and said will its easy you just have to stay out of the ditch and keeper straight on the road. My son rolled his eyes and said no really how did you do it. We all looked at him and said with a lot of grace.

My dad said I left the pavement bare behind me so he had no issues at he was driving on black top! What a scoundrel. So I will endorse the wide brute to any looking for a tire they sure did me a good turn and at a decent cost. Be warned though they are a flatter surfaced tire and all that wandering I thought I was doing was just the snow grabbing the sides of my tires. I never used off road tire before in my life. These are like a hybrid off/on road handled real nice though a very different feel to it.

The worse part is Christmas is coming and we will back up there again with my niece I just hope the weather is nice that week as it can be real bad for road closures at that time of the year.

By the way we left the furniture in the truck over night and started home in another snow storm. At least that one we drove out of 1/4 of the way home and it was daylight. I managed to get three of my neighbors with snow balls before it all melted out of the truck it was 10 degrees out when we got home. My wife also swears she will never go up in a rain coat again. One would think after 15 years she woulda known better.

I loves me snow still regardless. I also got to use my dads new snow blower it is awesome! 15 hp thorough that wet heavy snow like it was not there. biggrin.gif

Well I can say that I feel left out as I would have loved to be driving in all that. I love the snow myself. What tires are you using on your truck?

I bet you would have. I do have one rule though no hanging you head out the window other then to look for the road edge.

Reminigton Wide Brute Never ran them before but I read up a bit on them and seemed like they were decent life span and grip. The grip I will not complain life span I will see. But the price was right 235/75/15 for 135 install. Cheaper in the USA.

I do not hang my head out but I do place my hands out every now and then to break the ice forming on my wipers. I just love driving in freezing rain. NOT! I love the snow but the ice can go away. I like to ride a little to the left of the right hand ditch. The gravel there can provide a little boost to your traction.

Those are some aggressive off road tires. How do they sound on dry pavement? I think the road noise would be a bit of a bother.
