Krakyn Introduction - Page 11

Sounds like an idea, but like I said, I cannot land announcing "I am here to farm". Canada seems to want a lot of immigrant workers like roofers, technicians and so forth. The tasks Canadians won't do I guess, but the problem is I am not experienced in those things.

The whole farm idea is mostly for the children, especially Felipe, he would inspect every minute corner of it until he knows it like the back of his hand. Actually, it is for me too as I like the peace, BUT I still need access to technology, hospitals and so forth, I would not want to be so remote that I would have to evac every time there was an emergency.

Are there farms near cities or does planning force them to be in very isolated areas in Canada?

Introduction Krakyn

Farms are near and far. The closer to metro areas the costs do increase. You can buy farms that are more rundown cheaper then fix the outbuildings as required also.

I was thinking for Felipe would likely benefit due to the increased physical levels of rural living. Just having plain old fashion room to jump roll and make general havoc is a real boon.

Once out side of the greater Toronto area prices decline but so do the other services though you are from being isolated. Just all the money is in Toronto so the medical and aid for children with special needs is concentrated there also.

I am where I am as the urban benefits for my boys out weighed the freedom of play and such of a farm. It is not easy to make that choice as there are many pros and cons to all. I really miss being able to spit out the front door and not hit the neighbors house.

just on the west side of Hamilton Ontario as you follow lake Ontario to the Niagara river is some of the best farm land we have and some are reasonable compared to the housing in the Burlington area(about 75 kM in distance from me)

A remote area would be something like Kirkland lake though it is growing also I understand. One could drive for 4 hours just to go to a proper theater to see a play.

12 to 18 hours drive north of Toronto yup it is a long ways.

As far as why we are looking for roofers and bricklayers it is because the last round of skilled trade workers never trained any new apprentices greed and narrow foresight on the trade unions part. If I want a brick chimney made I would be hard pressed to find one with the required skills that was born in the area I live. I think the cleaner environment of computers and high tech jobs pulled the younger people away from the trades.

Sad indeed.

Krakyn Introduction

Sorry for the delay, I really need to look in on my own thread more often. Yes all went well managed some nice family time in there also. Manged some nice 4 pound ish bass though I thought I was pike fishing. The business side wrapped fast as many really just wanted to enjoy the sun as it was nice those weeks.

Funny part never did get any pike, I did get a nice invitation to go pickerel and perch fishing in September before it gets too cold to really enjoy it.

I really miss living in and around small lakes, I got to move my heart breaks knowing my boys are missing on some of this fun. They are now 9 and 5 perfect age to get adventurous on a farm. Though my oldest did not enjoy killing a turkey at my cousins last weekend. I did how ever note the fine meal it made he sure enjoyed.

Spent the entire day there seemed strange running around barefoot and no shirt again.

My dad who is seventy is the worst kid in the lot her we are walking my youngest on a horse bare back and he jumps up with him and take the horse for a swim across a small pond. My cousin and I bust our selves laughing at him. (I should mention this is the farm my dad grew up on).

The old saying is true I Guess you can take the boy out of the country but there ain't know way of getting the country outta the boy.

So all in all yes we had fun and I got my meetings and the who mets who game done .

Last week just flew getting caught up at the office and at home. Birthday party for my new 5 year old on Sunday past. I wish I could send you all a piece of the cake it was a double layer fudge brownie cake. Kinda rich but worth the taste.

This week I have to try and finish some drywall work and finish stripping an old stand my grand father built. It was built around 60 years ago it was made from an old player piano. I should post a pic as it really is sort of a typical make do furniture piece for that generation. It was built for a doctor in Meaford who now is dead, when the doctor retired he returned the piece to my grandfather who did not want it so my dad said he would as it made a great phone stand.

It had been used to store basic medication in and the top and a fold down face so it could be used to write a prescription on in the examination room. The bottom is just two open shelves at that time the top to shelves and the top shelf portioned in half.

My dad took the bottom of an old orange create (made from an orange tree) and made a door for the bottom. It is not a dainty piece it is rough and was built to serve an purpose and not fall apart. As such it has been cut to add a phone cord and items like that. We are stripping it and might white wash it when done all depends on the wood colour we end up with when all the old paint and such is removed.

(notes he has rambled enough) I hope you find peace somehow in your new home JB and LDS as it sound like it will be a challenge.

Thanks for such a detailed summary of your adventures. Your character was not so fortunate in Medieval. By the way, would you like me to open a Blog for you in the Public or Private section?

Which ever seems the most appropiate JB. Yes it seems I should have kept faith in our distance from town and held tight. Though we likely would have been dragged back at best anyhow. It is Razzor I feel bad for he is a fun rper!
