DEFENSE MISSILES ABOARD PASSENGER JETS TO BE TESTED
In an airplane hangar north of Fort Worth, Texas, technicians are preparing to mount a fire-hydrant-shaped device onto the belly of an American Airlines Boeing 767. It is an effort that could soon turn into a more than $10 billion project to install a high-tech missile defense system on the nation's commercial planes.

I have heard about this before. The question that keeps coming up is will it be automatic or will it be manual? If it is manual, then someone needs to know how to fire it and aim it and the like. But if its automatic, it has to be able to distinguish between missiles and other small flying things.
