I Have Severe ADHD

Let me start off with a introduction.

My name is Billy, I grew up in a town named Richmond. I'm a 20 years old disabled man(PWD), who has ADHD(I have no physical problems in anyways, but sometimes adhd may make it look like I got physical problems) I'm in the B.C special olympic, I should be going every Saturday but lately I been lazy, and in a few days I'm going to college named"Douglas", there's a program there called ASE, the program is made for people like me.

First of all I want people to understand a few facts. ADHD is inevitable. I know how there are many times you think people actually get better, but it's impossible and if they think they "Did" got better they never had ADHD to begin with. I couldn't remember when I was first diagnosed with adhd.

Second of all, Ritalin does nothing for people who really have ADHD. In fact there are no special education that can help the adhd problems, I remember how my parents hired many tutors trying to teach me something but it was impossible I could think very fast but I couldn't remember anything. I even had and will have public special education again and again. It will do nothing for my situation.

The point is you have to understand, it really doesn't take sherlock to know who are the people that "Really" have ADHD, its more than just talking a little weird, it's their mentality. It's really difficult for people growing up with ADHD I went thought it.

I remember many times my teacher calling me names because I couldn't really stay indoor, or control the urge of jumping tables or on chairs. At the end ADHD is not always an illness or something that makes me unhappy, sometimes I find that it is a blessing(I feel gifted every time I could think of something that normal people will not think about, usually bad things that makes complete sense to me or other people with adhd, usually are things normal people would never ask about). And really there's no cure for ADHD. People probably find a cure for cancer before finding a cure for ADHD, it's just a way of birth.

And hey really there's no cure for ADHD if someone says adhd can be cured they're either a very bad doctor or a liar. Oh and here's a cool tip for parents with kids that you assume they have adhd, well do you know people with ADHD HAVE very good sense of hearing! So good I feel the people around me are deaf.

Thanks for sharing your story. I have a child who was diagnosed with ADHD and put first on Ritalin and now Concerta, the thing is that the medication do not seem to be working as it should. He is now being diagnosed again, probably with PDD-NOS. He is like an engine 24/7. He is amazing with computers but his speech and language/receptive development are extremely poor.

I see, do you know adhd is not only inevitable but there are a lot of times people are always better with adhd. Like today for example I was waiting for a computer case being delivered to my house...

However the fed ex person dropped down a box with the sound of a qlink I know that the case is broken, I notice he was smirking when I was signing the thing. So I opened the box, and at first I couldn't comprehend how much damage it had, it turns out the entire front panel has been almost "Torn off", the only thing keeping it attached was the wires.

So I thought this isn't the end, I could reattach the pieces together by glue so than I started putting in the hardware, first the motherboard and then etc... And when I finished the computer wouldn't power on, I was clicking the button of the front panel that is attached to the computer by wire. It wouldn't start. Then atfer a few hours I checked the wire and etc I switched an older power supply I thought it would work now, but it still didn't work and than I found out the problem it turns out the wire for the start button was not attached at the front panel end.

I brought this computer case on the internet it is a very poor quality made in China case, the shipping fee cost almost the same as the case itself therefore I wouldn't think of returning it at all for whatever reason. Now my hair is itchy sometimes I wonder do all mainland goods makes people itchy.

By the way since you're a parent of a child who has ADHD, I got an advice for you! Do you know sometimes adhd people value somethings in very odd ways that normal people rarely comprehend the same kind of feeling for an object. For example I wonder if your son value something oddly like thinking it is alive and living when it's really nothing in normal people's eye. Really when it comes to sentimental value for people with ADHD it makes it seem like there is no sentimental value among the regular people.

I'm perplexed, why don't they have a problem with ADHD in Russia? China? Saudi Arabia or even Sweden? Yes, there are cases that fall under the category of needing intervention but I suspect people are abusing the diagnosis. If we had better schools I suspect we would have less problems with ADHD. But hey, just because American public schools are unchallenged, dangerous, materialistic and downright boring (Public schools that is) that ...well, I hope we as a society can refocus on dismantling an inferior education system rather than over diagnose children who have been blessed with more creativity and energy than the average person.

Comments: To "Really": Billy paints an unfairly grim picture of life with ADHD. Studies have shown that 50% or more of children "grow out" of ADHD as they become adults or at least see their symptoms decrease dramatically. For those people (like me) who don't outgrow it, meds and behavioral counseling usually make a significant, positive difference. Your kid has the added advantage of being diagnosed early and receiving what sounds like responsible assistance. This will avoid many of the missteps that Billy said he experienced

To the other responder who blames ADHD on a poor school system, all I can say is this: if you haven't experienced ADHD firsthand, you don't know what you're talking about. I've run marathons and earned a Master's degree, so willpower and self-discipline aren't problems for me, but at the same time I've found ADHD to be tremendously debilitating in my life. ADHD is real, it's a neurological condition, and the only role schools play in it is how well or poorly they assist students with ADHD in managing it. Think they don't have ADHD in Russia? Ever considered that it's under diagnosed there as their schools struggle with even more profound disability challenges? Ever wondered od their high rate of alcoholism might be partially attributable to people "self-medicating" to cope with undiagnosed ADHD and mental health problems?

Like autism I've seen a wide variety of people with ADHD / ADD and they each handle it differently. I believe this neurological condition has various levels of severity. The way each person handles it has a lot to do with how they were thought, brought up and some other factors. There definitely isn't a cap that fits all when it comes to it.

Having adhd is not funny. I have adhd and I know what the person is talking about. I have been on medicine and it doesn't work for me. It is not the school's fault for us having adhd. So you should have more understanding of people who have adhd. It can be controlled but not cured.
