Discuss the future of a movie that will take on very strong tones and explicit material including paedophile scenes, would you see it?

Child actress Dakota Fanning will appear in a controversial new movie featuring paedophile scenes. War of the Worlds star Dakota, 12, has signed up to appear in Hounddog. The screenplay calls for Fanning's character to be raped in one explicit scene and to appear naked or clad only in "underpants" in several other horrifying moments.

A source close to the film said: "The two taboos in Hollywood are child abuse and the killing of animals. "In this movie, both things happen." Fanning's mother, Joy, and her Hollywood agent, Cindy Osbrink, see the movie, written and directed by Deborah Kampmeier, as a possible Oscar vehicle for the pint-size star.

The freaks will come out of the woodwork. The "explicit" rape scene will fly around the internet, as will the "underpants" and "animal killing" scenes. Dakota Fanning has just made herself famous.

Her mother, concerned only for her daughter's Oscar eligibility, should be jailed, in my opinion.

I'm rather confused and concerned. Everything I have read says its about a girl who takes solace in the music of Elvis. However, everything seems to focus on the fact that Dakota will be raped and naked. She is only twelve, isn't it illegal to show a twelve year old being raped or nude? And what kind of mother lets her daughter do this kind of movie? I believe in the freedom of all sorts of media, but the sexual exploitation of children is not legal or alright to allow. Looks like all the original investors backed out, emergency investors stepped in and they finished the film on the 21st of July.

One of the most controversial thing (besides the fact that Dakota is a kid and the scenes are very strong) did not have enough funding and suddenly it started to get fundings to be finished (I wonder if those rich pedophiles are the real ones funding this movie). Sickening. Dakota's mother is irresponsible because no matter how the scenes were carefully done, the kid is only 12 years old! It is way too much pressure for such a young kid, not to mention the psychological burden.

Does festival entry break child porn laws?

The Catholic League is asking the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate whether the makers of the controversial 2007 Sundance Film Festival entry "Hounddog" - in which a character played by 12-year-old actress Dakota Fanning is raped - violated federal child-pornography laws.

"It matters not a whit whether Fanning's mother, along with Fanning's teacher/child welfare worker, gave their consent," said Catholic League President William Donohue in a statement. "What matters is whether they are an accessory to a crime.

I am sure that the artists will say that this topic is enlightened by the movie. At least that is what I hear from the NEA when they stirrer up controversy with their granting of questionable projects. However, there is a difference between enlightenment and putting a spotlight on a topics that do not need it. Other than to shock, what benefit does showing the rape of a 12 year old girl give to society. Are you going to teach me it is wrong? Well too late, I already know. Are you going to show me that it can hurt and destroy a young life...too late again.

I know, action movies don't provide us anything meaningful. Well, they aren't supposed to. They are supposed to provide an escape for a while. So are commedies, sci-fi and some dramas and thrillers. What is this movie giving us? In my opinion, it is a ride into depravity and debauchery. If it is truly about a girl that finds solace in the music of Elvis, why can't it be about a girl that finds solace in the music of Elvis and doesn't get raped.

I know...that isn't nearly as sensational!

If mom was so interested in a Oscar, I am shocked that the girl doesn't take solace in the music of Elvis, is raped, mentally challenged and experiences her first lesbian relationship. The Academy seems to really go for that type of enlightenment. Is it any wonder why box office numbers have been down the last 2 years?

Growing up is hard enough. Growing up a child actor has proven to be even more of a challenge. I do hope that this experience in cinematography does not hinder this childs natural development.

I read a good quote about this somewhere that went something like...

QUOTE (Not exact)
"You would not bring garbage off the street and put in your home, so do not do the same with this either."

I can see every pedophile in existence rushing to watch though. I am interested in whether cinemas are really going to show this or choose not to out of protest.

Oh, I am very sure about that. Also, Dakota Fanning's mom seems to be so concerned about her daughter's psychological state after filming this movie that all she is studying is if the girl is going to get an Oscar and make her even richer.
