Actually, I think he enjoyed getting his messages out on what he and his supporters feel as being important to them and make them important to McCain. McCain seriously needs to reach out to this portion of the republican base as McCain is in general too moderate for most conservative republicans and the religious right of the party. Also, it didnt cost him much personally since most of his money for the campaign was donated. It is also quite possible that this was a audition for the VP role as well...but I sort of doubt that.

The VP role, never thought about that, but I doubt McCain would chose him. Actually, since Huckabee said he was going to keep running I did not see anything about him in the main stream media. Everything has been turned to McCain and of course the current fight on the Democratic side.

Mike Huckabee History & Civil Business Politics

Well, it has been over for quite some time. There really was never a chance for Huckabee to win the nomination for months now, but his continuing to fight was more or less demonstrating that McCain really doesnt have the total support of the party. A Huckabee VP could be a sort of olive branch to the more conservative religous portion of the republican party. I really dont think it will happen though, but would probably be in McCains best interest to pick someone with a similar stature as Huckabee (probably more on the conservative side and a bit less on the religious side would be best).

Rather off topic, but...
Honestly, I see McCain picking a clone (what I call it). I see him picking someone that is pretty moderate and is in line with his thinking. Actually, Joe Lieberman (democrat/former republican) is a name that I could actually see him choosing as a running mate. I would be a shock of sorts. Of course, that would mean that Lieberman would have to switch parties again...something he is not opposed to at all and he currently is not too happy with the democrat party's direction regarding defense. McCain is going to really play up the fact that he has worked well with the opposite party to get things done and picking a quasi democrat as a VP would raise it up yet another notch.

Mike Huckabee Proves John McCain Must Reach Out to Pro-Life Voters to Win

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Mike Huckabee left the Republican race on Tuesday night after John McCain made his bid for the GOP nomination official. However, Mike Huckabee leaves the campaign knowing that he made it clear that John McCain must actively support a pro-life position on abortion to win in November. Even as McCain wrapped up the nomination, exit polling data in Ohio and Texas showed a strong majority of Republican voters are pro-life. Huckabee developed such a strong following with pro-life voters that only he and former candidate Fred Thompson earned official endorsements from pro-life groups throughout most of the campaign. That Huckabee received such a large share of pro-life votes means two things. First, Huckabee is a respected national face of the pro-life movement and someone who can look ahead to either a possible vice-presidential pick or another run at the presidency in 2012 if McCain loses in November. Second, it means McCain must do more to shore up his support with pro-life voters. He must emphasize his strongly pro-life voting record on abortion, his desire to see Roe v. Wade overturned and his willingness to veto legislation from a pro-abortion Congress that wants to public fund abortions here and abroad.

Mike Huckabee Considers 2012 Presidential Bid, If He Can Win

Mike Huckabee, the pro-life advocate who ran for president in 2008 and is the former Arkansas governor, says he will put together a presidential campaign for 2012 if he sees a pathway to victory.

Huckabee told WHO radio in Des Moines, Iowa, where he won the 2008 presidential caucus vote, that he would consider running if he thought he could capture the nomination to take on pro-abortion President Barack Obama.

"I"m not ruling it out. And that's not a yes, but it's definitely not a no," Huckabee told WHO's Steve Deace.

"The honest answer is: I"m keeping it open as an option, I"m looking at whether or not there's a pathway to victory," he added. "As I"ve told several people, I"m not jumping into a pool when there's no water in it."

While he ponders running, Huckabee is laying the foundation necessary for a presidential bid by speaking to important organizations in the first presidential battleground. On Sunday, he will deliver a speech at the Iowa Family Policy Center's "Celebrate the Family" event. Ref. Source 5

Mike Huckabee Set to Launch Book Tour, Contemplates 2012

The book tour is the proven way to keep your name in the national headlines without being forced to commit to a potential presidential campaign. It's worked for everyone from Sarah Palin to Tim Pawlenty - so why not for Mike Huckabee? The former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate participated a in conference call with bloggers and reporters today and said he's using the upcoming book tour for "A Simple Government" - which hits the bookshelves on Tuesday - to gauge the potential response to a potential presidential bid. Huckabee said the book tour would help him decide if 'there is both financial and organizational support that warrants walking away from what I"m doing and getting back into the fray again." Ref. Mike Huckabee May Not Run for President, Announcement Soon

Mike Huckabee may not wage a second campaign for the Republican nomination for president and the former Arkansas governor is expected to announce his plans as early as tomorrow on his popular cable program. Huckabee announced today that viewers of his program on Fox News should stay tuned for an important announcement this weekend.

"Governor Huckabee will announce tomorrow night on his program whether or not he intends to explore a presidential bid," Woody Fraser, the executive producer of "Huckabee" said in a statement. "He has not told anyone at FOX News Channel his decision."

However, Ed Rollins, the republican campaign consultant who helped Huckabee in 2008, tells the Wall St. Journal his guess is the governor will announce he will not run.

"I"ve heard nothing, which indicates to me he's not running," he said, adding that Huckabee has not given him consistent indications he's running for president.

Rollins said Huckabee seemed "fully engaged" a month ago in a potential presidential campaign but, two weeks ago, "he started backing off, but he still wanted to go through, could he raise the money, could he put together the operatives."

Still, Rollins told the WSJ all the answers to those questions were yes, at the time, and that they focused on winning Iowa and doing well in South Carolina and Florida after that.

"There was absolutely nothing that I told him that would back him away from doing the race," Mr. Rollins said. "If he said tomorrow night, "I"m running," and came to me, I could put together a campaign in week."

UPDATE: Huckabee himself appeared on Fox News" Neil Cavuto show this afternoon and said people who claim to know what he will announce may be wrong. "You"re gonna hear people who act like they know all about it and they don't," Huckabee said, adding that he hadn't even informed his family of the plans until today. Ref. Source 8
