This is a very simple game, where you drop colored markers (like checkers pieces) into a vertical framework to try to match four in a row like Tic-Tac-Toe. It's really fun to play with kids, because they get so excited when they win. My daughter and I play the "battle" (as opposed to the polite, take turns) version that we made up together -- one marker in each hand and drop them as fast as you can while fending off the other player. It's a hoot, noisy and hilarious.
I loved my Connect-Four game when I was a kid. I used to play against my mom, and I don't know if she let me win on purpose, but she never could beat me. I think that's when I discovered my fascination with mathematics!
I had no luck playing connect four. In fact, I equate connect four to a 3-d game of tic tac toe, of course, on a much larger scale. When I was a kid, I loved playing but was never any good, I had the propensity to continually out think myself and not even realize I had lost the game!
An absolute classic, we are currently doing a connect four tournament at work, 1,500 people winner stays on. the winner at the end of the day takes home a Nintendo Wii, so if you are really good you could have almost a day off work and go home with a Wii. A few rules are implemented to ensure a swift game, if you take more then 10 seconds to place your counter you loose. Can very easily push you into a move you don't want to make.
