I must admit it seems like a more complicated version of risk. So ya I would give it at try but at $60.00 they can keep it for a bit longer till the price is more reasonable. Politically correct?...Its a game folks relax. I never hear people saying my grandfather dies on d-day please do not buy any war games.
I know this is 'just a game', but it is also mostly a marketing tactic. We live in a world where negativity sells, so why not a game where you are in the terrorists shoes? However, there is one problem here... you see to really enjoy a game one must become somehow part of it - not the game itself - but in accomplishing something within the game. I just do not find it musing to say "Okay I send ten terrorists to hijack planes in 'x' country." To me there is nothing 'fun' in saying that at all.
I hope this is not off topic. I see little difference in saying I shoot at B10 when playing battle ships and saying I send a torpedo via tube 3 at the port side of the american sub. Either way you are saying I am going to kill all crew members aboard as efficiently as I can. Please raise your hand if you played this.
For me as long as the game offers a chance to win due to good strategies I would be ok with it.
I do agree with you JB they are using the current war on terrorist that the states are heading to promote their game. Not a great move to me but not the topic at hand.
Why is it ok to use financial vices to bring another country to its knees and make games of that and call it fun. People die of starvation and poverty but we still play monopoly.
Sorry all I just ponder things like this time to time. I do realise terrorism is a terrible thing and is not to be condoned in any way. I just thought to let others know why I see this game in a simular light as a game of risk or a first party shooter game.
Now I must go and ponder if I am becoming to desensitized by the violence around me or see if my heart is just getting hardened.
Rather off topic, but... Might I presume then JB and LDS that you would not play games that involve blatant massacre to achieve a final goal. Such as Video first person shooter games as a general gaming venue. |
Krakyn, I understand where you are coming from... for instance there may be bloodshed within medieval (although if one plays correct there is very little of it), but it is fighting with a purpose. Therefore if you are saving the village from an evil warlord you can 'get into' that. My point is that I cannot 'get into' being a terrorist, the theme just does not seem right.
Yes, there is violence in a lot games - imaginary violence, but there must be some kind of line to be drawn otherwise there will start to be board games like "Who can rape the most women" or "Cut your parent's throat". This is my personal opinion - for me I would never buy such a game.

Krakyn - visit the Games Review Board (Electronic based) and see the Threads about that - Violence and Sex in Video Games - you will find many of my opinions there. |
Has anyone actually bought and played this? I want to know what you have to do and how you win.
