Do you agree with the following quote?

"Democracy is being allowed to vote for the candidate you dislike least."

Is Democracy

Not too bad a quote, but it is filled with cynicism.

I voted for George W. Bush because I liked him and believed that he would be the best person for the job. I still think that he is far better than any of the alternatives.

Sometimes, you have to vote for the person you dislike least. A lot of times there aren't any good choices. But sometimes there really are good choices.

He probably should have just put a period after the word vote. The reason you may get only a couple of unsavory choice for the vote is not necessarily related to democracy, but rather our procedure set in place to get to that vote.

Is Democracy

I think at times it is your chance to vote for the person you like the least. I know for the past few elections we have not had a real good choice on who to put into office. I have voted for the lessor of two evils.

See if we are voting on a candidate, doesn't that make us a republic? But I get what he is saying. All an election is, to decipher whom is the lesser of two evils.

Yes the United States is a Republic. This is why we elect people to represent us. Many people forget that we are a Republic.

This is why it is important for people to get out and vote for the person they dislike the least. smile.gif

Capitalism and the Duplicitous Meanings of Democracy
By Charles Sullivan

Despite the prevalent belief that the meaning of democracy is universally understood, it remains an elusive idea that is not easily implemented. As a political philosophy, democracy is more closely associated with the socialist governments of Latin America, with Venezuela and Bolivia, than with the United States. Ref. Source 1
