I can't believe what this guy said! Is he completely insane? These "shock jocks" take things way too far, and this time I think Mr. Imus will be made an example for others to be more circumspect.

I guess I don't get it. You listen to nearly 90% of all sit-coms on the television and you hear this type of comment and far worse nearly everyday. Listen to Chris Rock, Dave Chappel or any other of the popular black commedians and you get WAY worse than this. The wrong person happens to be listening to Imus and he gets roasted for saying it. Shock Jocks have made livings at making comments like since the genre has existed. If you don't like it, turn the knob. That is what I do. I don't really love listening to Imus, the Greaseman or Stern, so guess what...I don't turn on their shows in order to generate a way to get upset with what is said.

If this is totally irreprehensible as Sharpton and others make it out to be, boycott the advertisers products and stop listening to the show. You do this long enough, there will be no Imus show because no one will help pay to put it on the air. If this show is not killed by public opinion, then apparently there is a demand for being shocked.

Should he have said it...of course not. However, no one should say it. That goes for blacks, whites, asians, male, females or anyone. If you (meaning the FCC)take him off the air, you should ensure that no other comments like this occur in ANY other form over the air or satellite. If the radio broadcaster elects to fire him, well that is their choice to make, but I would have to ask where they draw the line at. What group isn't offended by commentary. Someone make a gay remark are they gone? Someone makes a remark about the elderly are then gone? Someone makes a joke about chinese food stores or indians working as telemarketers...are they gone? Who is allowed to be offended and who isn't?

I am not a Imus fan, but if you turned on his show and were shocked by hearing this, it would have to be your first time listening to him. Again, if you want him off the air, do what they did to get the OJ interview on how he "might" have killed his wife and her waiter and just organize, threaten and stop buying the products of the advertisers...it works!

What did he actually say?

I agree that one should just 'move on' or change the channel as it were, but I think everything must have a limit. we have the same problem in my country where these popular radio talk hosts just pick a race, religion or ethnicity and start to rant on what is typically biased information. This can lead to stereotyping and or slander - there must be a limit to 'freedom of speech'.

What did he actually say?

He and his co-worker called the female Rutgers basketball players "nappy-headed hos." This is how the conversation went:

QUOTE
Imus was speaking with producer Bernard McGurk when the NCAA title game between Rutgers and Tennessee came up.

"That's some rough girls from Rutgers," Imus said. "Man, they got tattoos "¦"

"Some hardcore hos," said McGurk.

"That's some nappy headed hos there, I'm going to tell you that," Imus said.

The thing is this is NOT the first time he makes racial slurs of this type, he has been doing this for years, he even has a TV show. Two weeks of suspension is a joke to me. Obviously whatever he says "sells" otherwise the big chains would have gotten rid of him long ago. Pathetic.

Breaking News

NEW YORK (AP) - MSNBC said Wednesday it will drop its simulcast of the "Imus in the Morning" radio program, responding to growing outrage over the radio host's racial slur against the Rutgers women's basketball team.

Actually, it did sell, but it might not sell in the immediate future and that is what got him the ax. MSNBC could care less about the comment. What they do care about is that Proctor and Gamble, General Motors, American Express, Sprint, Bigelow Tea and Staples have either already said or are strongly considering pulling their support for the show and since they are in business to make money I can understand the decision. However, I do have the same question...what is fair commentary now for this genre or is it gone forever (or rather banished to satellites as long as the FCC doesnt get a hold of them as well)? Imus only a few months ago called for the destruction and bombing of Mecca...fired? No. Did you even hear about it? No. Did it offend someone? Probably.

I also cannot help but think that the fact that we are in presidential election mode has gotten him canned as well. All I read about was what the prospective candidates have thought about the comment.

Speaking of the FCC...will they put this on the list of things to censor? Again, if you don't like what you are listening to, why not turn the channel? It works for me and I have a far less stressful life because of it. A DJ having people mimic the comment has been fired by his radio station as well...

I guess the part I love is how the offended Rev Jesse Jackson in the 80's referred to a jewish section of NY as Hymietown and the jews themselves as Hymies. He still has his job, but I guess that is different.

I might use an analogy about a pot and a kettle, but I am concerned I could be banned from the internet if I did it in this situation...
