20 pounds Ground beef 4 large Onions -- chopped 4 large Green bell peppers -- chopped 4 cups Celery -- chopped 1 cup Brown sugar -- packed 1 cup Spicy brown mustard 4 cups Ketchup 2 cans (12-oz) tomato paste 4 cans (15-oz) tomato sauce 1 cup Vinegar 2/3 cup Worcestershire sauce 100 Hamburger buns Recipe by: St. Louis Post-Dispatch 8/7/95 In a large Dutch oven or pan, brown the beef, onions, peppers and celery in batches until meat is browned. Remove mixture with a slotted spoon to a large roasting pan. Discard fat. Stir together the sugar, mustard, ketchup, tomato paste, tomato sauce, 6 cups water, vinegar and Worcestershire sauce. Stir into meat mixture. If too thick, add up to 2 cups more water. Cover and simmer for 3 to 4 hours, stirring occasionally. Serve on the buns. Recipe from Taste of Home magazine. |
